Where are the November Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Thank you all for your advice! I did get sick, it was scary but it didn't hurt as bad as I anticipated. This is TMI, but it was only bile and Water that came up. After I got sick I instantly felt better.

Today is a new day! I am at home now, which is so nice. I tried having some Jello, pudding and milk and boost... they all tasted horrible! I'm allowed to be on "full liquids" and it all tastes like crap.

So all I've had is 2 cups of water...it's not great, but tomorrow I will do better!

What were you able to drink the first 2-4 days out of surgery? What tips helped you get your Water and Protein in? And we're you able to meet those requirements?

Thanks a million guys!

Sheena :-)

The first few days post-op it was hard for me to find anything I wanted. I gagged on yogurt.

I found that really cold and really warm were the best options for me - sugar free Popsicles and hot tea were the best for me.

Glad that you are home and no longer throwing up!

Hey Sheena :) I was sleeved on 1121 and small ice cubes were a lifesaver!! Also crystal light in water helped. Just sip, sip sip!! Also Orange Zero Powerade kept me from getting dehydrated.

Glad your back at home!! Wishing much success to us all!!!

My surgery was Monday, the 24th, at around 1 PM. Since I had the sleeve, gall bladder removal and fix a hiatal hernia, the surgery took 2+ hours. I didn't get to my room until after 6 PM. They had me on morphine, so I was doing okay. The next morning around 9 AM, I had to go to xray to make sure there weren't any leaks. That was so tough! You swallow this crappy tasting stuff, and had to stand for them to take the xrays while the stuff goes down. I ended up having dry heaves and them telling me to try to stand still, then turn this way, then that way. It was awful! When I got back to my room they gave me a shot to help stop the nausea -- well, whatever it was made me sleep the entire day! I woke up around 5 when the doctor came in to check on me. Thank goodness I didn't have any leaks! We were expecting snow starting after Midnight on Tuesday night, so I was hoping to get released that evening. Dr. said I could go home, as long as I promised to stick with getting my fluids and keep moving around. Of course, I did, and I was home around 7:30-8:30 that night. We ended up getting 6 inches of snow during the evening into the day on Wednesday, so I was really glad I came home. The program I am on has 5 stages to get back to eating. The first week after surgery, you are allowed nothing but Clear liquids -- broth, Water, sugar free Jello and 2 Protein shakes a day. A total of 48-64 ounces of fluids a day. After I go to the Dr this coming Monday morning, I will learn if I can move to stage 2 - full liquids which includes nonfat greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, strained broths/soups, along with stage 1 items. Hopefully I will get the okay. The most surprising thing to me is that I'm not hungry like I thought I would be. And if I do have the urge to "eat", I keep telling myself, I didn't go through all this for me to go back to eating like I used to. I need to keep on track and not blow all the effort I just went through. This has helped me a lot. I finally did tell my family members about all the reasons I had the surgery. They were very supportive and quite surprised that I had the guts to do this. I'm not known in my family as being brave when it comes to pain, surgeries, etc. I wish you all the very best! I know you feel like you've been hit by a truck the first couple days, but you just keep the end result in your mind and know that it is all worth it!!! As of today, I have lost 12 pounds from the beginning of my pre-surgery diet til now. It's a step in the right direction!!! Good luck to you all!!

What stage does your doctor have you on? I'm on full fluids, so I had cream of chicken Soup today and it was the most amazing thing EVER! LOL

How are things going with you? ?

It's been amazing so far!! I've done pretty well the whole time.

Today I've snacked a little more than normal but didn't really eat much more than normal...I had an extra cheese stick lol!!

I'm nervous about going back to work tomorrow because I always forget to eat when I'm there and busy....I went shopping tonight to make sure I have plenty to pack with me.

I'm so glad you are doing well!!!!

I haven't found the "bad" yet but when I do I'll let everyone know!

I'm so happy you haven't had any issues! That is a great thing!

How far out are you now? What do you do for work? How much time did you take off of work? Good for you for getting prepared for work. What did you pack for lunch?

I'm the same way where I get so busy and the time flies by and I realize it's home time in an hour and I haven't even had lunch! That is going to have to change!

Good luck with your first day back at work!

Sheena :-)

Sleeved Nov 13. No complications until trying to advance my diet post op week 1 to 2. Have been vomiting quite a bit since (so for 10 days). Had to get IV fluids earlier this week. Hardly able to eat or drink. Do ok on clears but not much else (not even

Protein drinks). Dr is aware. Going to call again tomorrow. Sigh. It's been hard. I'm praying this is something I'll look back on in 3 months and say it was worth it or no regrets. Right now I'm just sick and sad. The plan was to go back to work today...but I'm

taking a couple more weeks off.

My sleeve has been ok. My program requires me full weeks of liquid until my post op app this Wednesday. Today I couldn't anymore. Got tired of so much icecream. I tried chicken breast. It hurts a little still going down. I feel a pressure on my chest. If I drink anything with the food I fee like throwing up so that I learned not to. I get amazingly hungry between 2-4am. So is all icecream at that time. Still haven't gone to the bathroom without meralax help, but then again I haven't eaten anything. I am thirsty all day. Super horrible taste in my mouth but dealing with it. I will say ladies, I can smell my urine different. I used to drink pills a long time ago for weight loss n back then they told me the smell was the fat. This time it smells the same for my body is obviously peeing the fat and u can smell it. (Sorry for being graphic. I'm in the medical field and anything is important to say no matter how disgusting it may sound) I had my ladies days a week post op. Not much of a change. Only a bit more tender since my belly was still aching. I will be honest, my sex drive is over the moon! I'm sure my partner doesn't mind, but I can not wait for my doctor to put me on birth control asap!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
