Hi all my name is Kayla I'm 27 years old 4ft 11in 360lbs needless to say I Need something to help kickstart my weight loss. I've been overweight my entire life. I initially looked into WLS earlier this year but wanted to give regular diet and exercise another go..... I worked for Wells Fargo and have been working out over my lunch hour for months - I have lost 15lbs...

After a very difficult workout I made the decision to get some help.. It was either surgery or an very possible early death.

I have united healthcare and from what I'm told will cover the vsg surgery with a few requirements

My BMI is 70.4 yikes and I have sleep apnea. I thought this process would be quick but I'm finding out it might be next year until I get surgery,. I'm super excited to begin my life...looking for some pals to share this with. Good luck to you all on each of your journeys

I'm 5'6" & 370 so I know how you feel. My first appointment with my surgeon is the 24th. I'm excited & scared, I've been considering this for 2 yrs. Now I'm trying to decide on sleeve or bypass. I started out wanting the sleeve but now I'm going to talk it over with the Dr. & see what's best for me. Good luck with your journey, I wish I had done it when I was younger !

Hello welcome Qtpie28 I started in August had my first appt in sept they ask u to get a lot of testing done and copy's of records from any drs u go to if u have sleep apnea in my program they require u to use Cpap and to prove u use it also u meet with a physical therapist nutrishionist a nurse get wieghed take a breath test get a edg test to look at your stomach before surgery and give u a diet to follow with a certain amount of wieght they want u to lose before surgery and excercises to do u must log all food and excercise so get ready for a little part time job cuz it sure feels like a job lol it's usually at least 3 to 6 months or more before u get surgery it's definately a journey good luck to u these forums are great forms of info and support

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
