I talked to the doctor today and they said the lower left abdominal pain is the pain they expect most patients to have. It's where they reconnected the duodenum to the the rest of the small intestine. She said in my cat scan that there was a little air there. Then she prescribed more hycet for pain.

@@layknee glad you called keep track of your symptoms & follow your Surgeon plan of care hopefully with some Protein & time it will heal & the palm will subside but if not in 3 days call again.

Hi all, first time posting, I hope I'm doing it right. Had surgery Monday. Rny plus repay of hiatal and umbilical hernia and an esophageal repair I can't remember what it's called. Was screaming in pain right or if recovery. Surgeon sent me home with 5/325 norcos and I'm losing my mind. Haven't sleep more than couple hours here and there. He doesn't believe in pain meds. I'm also seeing him tomorrow but he seems annoyed by me! Is live to know what some of you took immediately post surgery at home so I can be prepared with info. Thanks much!

@skinnyme123. Wow no paid meds. I hate taking any meds but I was glad to take my Oycodone

For 5 days at home PostOp before I tried a day without successfully and remained off. Each Surgeon is different and should be basing their plan of care on your unique circumstances health status and procedure so ask your questions till you get the answers you need.

Having broth with Protein right now at the hospital. I feel good and the nurse said of all the patients this week I did the best. I am so used to doing the worst when it comes to medical issues this was the most wonderful complement I could have received. Of course there still a lot of recovery ahead of me but I had a good start. I going home sometime this afternoon. Hurray!

@@Beni congrats for doing so well now as you go home keep it up. Remember every step you take is toward a better healthier you!post-205891-14146916394976_thumb.jpg

Amylynns, I said the same thing to my husband just before my surgery on the 27th - "It's like I have the nesting urge or something!" Lol... I'm 3 days post-op, and feeling pretty good. I'm new to this board, so missed reading your surgery date. How far out are you? And, I see you're in IA - me too! Are you comfortable with sharing your city?

Hey Tina! I had my surgery in Cedar Falls at Satori. I live about 30 miles East of there. Where are you? Oh, and I'm about a week and a half out now. The 20th was mine. I'm doing better each day! Getting out and about each day.

Had surgery on the 27th and have been in and out of sleep lol. Trying to get in liquids but it is difficult when you get full. My throat is sooo sore. Swollen, and red probably from a difficult intubation. Can't wait to be past this healing phase

This was my first week back to work and I'm exhausted. I went into the office two days and worked from home two days. It was hard to remember to get my Protein and Water while working. I need to do better with that. Taking tomorrow off because I think my body needs it.

Amylynns- I live by Iowa City. We're not too far away from each other. Cool! So you're a week ahead of me. Glad to hear you're doing so well. I've been pleasantly surprised so far. Very thankful. I know at some point something will come up - probably when I'm able to introduce foods. What are you eating at this point?

@misstvb. Bravo for getting thru the work week. It only because I have my own business That I've been able to take 4 weeks off to recuperate. Your my Hero for being able to do both. I work in hospitals & never the same one primarily supporting Surgeons or ER Docs so I know I would be challenged getting in my liquids. I'm working on a plan now for when I go back. The "waterlogged" AP helps me now but your not allowed to bring liquid in the Operating room and you have to hide them in a cabinet in the ER. Somehow I will have to make it work. Hoping your going to figure it out so you can give me tips. Ok!

Get your strength back tomorrow and recharge yourself for success next week!

I see people posting about having staples removed. I had rny & they told me I have staples & stitches & I'll have them for life. I'm confused, are other people having staples removed also?

I read all sorts of info on the internet. I'm off pure liquids as of two days ago. Today I read for the first time (do not eat more than 1/2 cup or you could burst your pouch) Well that's scarey! Looking at my nutrition guidelines, what it says I can have doesn't ever equal more 1/2 cup but I've never heard it put just that way. It got my attention. I was telling my husband this and he said "yes, the doctor told you that in the hospital and told you that if the pouch burst, it's a mess to fix and you told him 'OKAY'." I remember nothing of that conversation. Thank God for my wonderful husband that was with me 24/7 while I was in the hospital. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case no one else had it put to them that way also.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
