Packerfan61964 293 Posted October 13, 2014 I am curious to know from everyone.........How long did you take off from work after being sleeved?? I am a student in college and if I miss 4 classes......I am out...PERIOD!!! No questions, no return to school slips, no nothing. If I have my surgery on Thursday....could I go back to class that following Thursday?? I know that everyone's results are different.......just curious to hear them. THANKS!!!! auntiemel 275 Posted October 13, 2014 I took a month off work. I was asleep for almost an entire week after surgery and the second week I still struggled with energy. Today I'm 3 weeks post op and have more energy, but if I lay down, I could still fall asleep lol Can you have surgery between quarters/semesters or during a holiday break? disneymomx2 9 Posted October 13, 2014 I had my surgery last Thursday and I could have gone back to work or school today. I've had little pain, and haven't used any pain medication at all. I'm sure there are others who have had a lot different experience. Everyone is so different, and every surgeon is different so it's hard to tell how you will feel. kymmiej11 55 Posted October 13, 2014 My doctor told me two weeks for low impact jobs and 3 weeks for me because I'm a hairdresser and am on my feet all day, I wish I could've taken a month off, I feel I'll need it, but I also have to pay the bills as well:)
Paloma68 31 Posted October 13, 2014 I could have gone. I only took pain meds once after surgery. That was it. Aside from feeling tired and a little nauseous, I woud have been able to go to a 1-2 hour class where you sit... It'll depend on how you're feeing as I know from reading forums everyone is different. I went back 4 days post op because I HAD to (self-employed - no work, no income) and I was fine. Mentally knowing you have to do it makes it possible, I think... It helped me. Packerfan61964 293 Posted October 13, 2014 Auntiemel, that was my original plan.....to have it in December BUT.....an opportunity arose to have it done earlier and honestly I was having a hard time focusing on school, and I wanted to hurry up and get it done with. So since I am not one to dilly dally...I took the opportunity and I'm hoping that I can refocus and pull the semester out :-)

Twirpo75 50 Posted October 13, 2014 I took a week off work totally certain that I wouldn't be able to do it. And I'm not Super Woman like some of these gals! I took pain meds. I had a lot of pain afterward and I am a total WUSS! But my surgery was one week ago today and I am back at work today. I stopped taking the pain meds on Friday. That way I had a weekend to come out of drugged stupor. I have a desk job though and don't do a lot of walking while at work. I do have a suggestion. I found over the weekend that if I wore a Spanx tanktop, it helped. It holds my stomach in and doesn't let all the walking I have to do to get in and out of the hospital I work at hurt my "bullet holes". Now, I know you're a dude. And probably a really manly dude. So you hear Spanx and think, NEXT! So I would suggest maybe just finding a tight tshirt to wear under your regular shirt. Just something for support. It really does help with walking. food for thought since we can't eat it!
AlanaRN 419 Posted October 13, 2014 I'm an ER nurse so I will be out at least 4 weeks. There is no light duty in my job!
NotWishWhen512 31 Posted October 13, 2014 I'll be a week out tomorrow and I think I could IF it wasn't tons of walking. My energy level is very unpredictable and sometimes I feel really weak, but that's getting better. Just be prepared with all your water/protein!
orrio82 24 Posted October 13, 2014 I had Surgery 10/6 and returned to my part time job today, my full time job tomorrow and Wednesday will work both. I feel ok. Wondering about the double shift but should be fine.
lostforgood 21 Posted October 14, 2014 Had my surgery tuesday by friday I felt great. The trickiest part is the driving redtriction and not lifting more than 10 lbs
nixgreen 1 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm in the Healthcare field and am out for 6 weeks. I had a hiatal hernia repair and liver mass removal during my VSG so the added time off has been a blessing in disguise. Hopefully you'll be up and feeling good. Just be kind to your new tummy and take it easy. sleep when you can. I'm sure you'll make it work. Good luck
Sistersuz 14 Posted October 15, 2014 I was sleeved on 10/8 (last Weds.) and am returning back to work tomorrow. By Saturday I was out shopping and walking around a lot. Feeling great but still a bit tired at the end of each day.
