Since my sleeve my taste bud aren't the same either. I can't drink milk it taste awful I use to love to drink a cup now, I can't. Some food taste different too. I've been sleeved Aug 11, 2014. So I am 2 month post-op I still have to introduce food back but it doesn't taste good so I don't eat it. So don't worry much it will get back to normal.

Anything I have with starch in it, tastes like sugar. Example - one bite of rice tasted like a spoon full of sweetened oatmeal. One bite of potato tasted like sweet potato and so on. It is really a strange deterrent to have starches tasting like sugar. Sugar was not a real vice for me before, but now I get my sweet in with my Protein drink so it isn't a very welcome taste.

Yes, my taste buds have definitely changed...My surgery was last monday... Whats so weird for me is when I brush my teeth now, I can't stand my toothpaste. It tastes super strong and it almost makes me want to gag... Anyone experience that?

When I was allowed to add Peanut Butter....about 3 weeks out....it tasted different, stronger, but not bad. But, it upset my stomach. Now 9 weeks out I love Peanut Butter. I don't think things taste off or bad now but I notice the flavor more. I'm eating a lot slower and I think truly tasting things now. Sweet stuff is too sweet. I used to put chocolate creamer in my coffee...now a tiny bit goes a long way. Just give yourself some time....what tastes bad now might taste good 2 weeks from now.

It will come back don't worry. My taste drastically changed after surgery but now, ten minths later and 100 lbs. down as my hunger hormone is kicking back in I'm noticing my taste reverting to it's old habits.

Most things are way off for me but people say most times it goes away after a short while. I am hoping it's soon. I miss my glasses of ice Water. They taste funny right now.

It's the Ketosis. The chemical reaction of your body burning FAT instead of glucose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
