Cant get over the hump...this cant be the end!

Recommended Posts

I am soooo discouraged. I am 13 months post op and have lost 70+lb. I havent lost a single pound since February. I just cant get over this hump. My last fill was April 17th. I have 3.2 cc in a 4 cc band. My doc says after the first year most people have lost all that they are going to lose but I am NOT ready for this to be the end. I have 40 lb to goal and I AM GOING TO GET THERE!!!! Granted I have lost motivation but by God I got it back and am going on a crusade to lose the remaining 40lbs! I am going to resort back to Slim Fast shakes and exercise my rear off and count the crap out of calories. Anybody else want to jump on my belly buster wagon and kick some butt!

You go girl, you can do it. I really believe exercise is the key. Pump it up and get moving, and you'll start seeing some results....

OMG, I'm f*****, I've been banded almost 10 months and have only lost 60 something pounds and have 40 more to go. I wouldn't have had the surgery if I'd know you only loose the first year. This makes me mad.

I dont wont to mislead you what i really meant to say is he said the majority of your weight comes off within the first year and after that it is slower to come off. But holy S@&! this slow???

well maybe thats going to be your scaffold, i dont know if its just my doctor but he said i will only loose about 60% of my excess weight, bascially telling me that with the band i will never be 150lbs

Yup, of course you may be able to pump up the volume, etc. But I (and Allergan literature says so as well) was told that 50 - 65% of your excess weight is the average weight loss of banded people. It's been 4 yrs for me now and I pretty much stopped losing and just trying to maintain nearly 3 years ago. :D Many prove this wrong, so don't give up.

Don't get discouraged! There are so many people on this board prooving your surgeon wrong! Maybe you need to change up your routine. A different workout. Maybe change up your food choices. You may be in a rut. Good luck and don't give up!!!!

I'm with you! I also have 40 pounds to lose and I'm in a plateau. I'll kick some butt with you! I'm going to push exercise and be better about my food. We'll get there!

Hey beachgirl. don't be discouraged by "averages". There's always someone who beats the average. Let it be us!

What could it hurt! If we fail, we've lost all but 40 pounds! If we succeed, to whatever extent, we've lost more!

Bingo!

I figure my DH's aunt who was banded almost 2 years ago, had one fill, and doesn't look a bit different to me even though she claims to have lost 70 pounds will make up for me losing all I want to!:heh:

I hereby commit to doing exercise This Sunday through Saturday, all but one day. I hereby commit to no snacking from 2-5 PM (my hardest time) for the same time period. I will write down those 2 things each day as I accomplish them, and will report back next weekend.

I came to the site today looking for an answer to this very issue. I haven't lost a single pound in over 2 months! Granted I'm not being the ideal bandster, but Gee Whiz, I'm not taking in anywhere near the calories I did a year ago while maintaining a HUGE body mass.

I keep thinking, this can't be it. I can't be at my set-point weight already. 60 lbs gone is great, but not what I want.

So, starting Monday (come on, tomorrow's Mother's Day and you know I can't make unrealistic promises to myself) I'm going back to the Lapband Drawing board.

How should we do this--with a calorie, exercise, attitude challenge? Just a statement of recommittment? Let's support one another, all of us Stalled Bandsters!!!!!

Wagons, ho . . . . .

It's a little different than what you were told. Doctors consider the surgery a success if you lose around 70% of your excess weight, that does not mean that is all you can lose.

Also, the first 6-18 months are when it is the easiest to lose. After that it seems to take a little more effort.

To add to this, after the point where it's not as easy to lose, it's not any harder than if you'd gotten yourself to that point with no band...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
