Dallas Surgery Buddies Needed

Recommended Posts

I'm with Dr. Barker, Barker Bariatrics. My hope is January at Forest Park Medical. I have a group diet meeting tomorrow and one in December. Everything else is done, I have blue cross federal by the way. I'm a little worried about my BMI since I'm required to show a 2 year weight history which was only 33.6 2 years ago, 36.6 now with chronic high blood pressure. Waiting till January will take care of the requirement hopefully! Look forward to staying in touch!

1 day post-op home laying in my bed. Thank goodness, very minor pain and a lot of gas. I have been trying to get in enough walking which has eliminated most of the gas pain. Thanking God for a textbook surgery, could not have asked for anything more.

That could be tricky. I had to have 6 months worth of weigh-ins in the last 2 years. My pcp gave me 2 years worth and some of the weigh-ins were 30 BMI. My surgeon had me go back to get only the 6 months. I got approved right away. In other words talk to your surgeon's office the usually know what to do to get you approved. Besides they have a vested interest in getting you approved.

I'm having my surgery 11/13 with Dr. Kilgore. I was supposed to have it done in August, but due to abnormal pre op labs it was delayed.

Dr. Nicholson is my surgeon as well. I requested December 15th. and that's what's on my paperwork, unless something changes by the doctor.

Dr. Nicholson was perfect. Everything was textbook for me. I am only a couple days out and feeling great.

@toccora,

That is great! Did he make you feel comfortable and trustworthy? Sorry, a little nervous...my first surgery ever!

It was my first surgery also. He tried to make me feel as comfortable as he could. His methods are cutting edge and you will experience the least amount of pain possible. I know I made the right choice in regards to a surgeon.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
