Recommended Posts

I'm the 30th too! I'm super excited! I need to buy stuff tho my pre op diet is next week

I didn't have to do the pre op diet, but I'm thinking it would be in my best interest to get used to the liquids starting next week. I hope I can handle it!

I hope I can too. I'm scared of possibley starving or having head aches or mood swings and also I work at a bakery for I'm sure it'll be twice as hard

We have another thing in common...I bake wedding cakes as a side business to teaching...I'm hoping that I'll be able to continue that, but I haven't taken any cakes until after Thanksgiving just in case I have a problem!

@@clautxs my pre-op diet had been so easy compared to quitting smoking and caffeine. I am one of the lucky ones who actually gets to have a smart meal along with Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids. I also have been doing 30 minutes of cardio exercise daily and balloon exercises to help my lungs. I feel pretty good. I just keep reminding myself that the things that I feel deprived of are all of the things that helped me get to such a crucial point. I acknowledge that I know little of real hunger; I've always eating beyond satiety and biological urge. This helps me get through the sucky moments (like the aroma of Chinese from the restaurant next to the gym!) HTH.

Bad idea. Grocery shopping on day 4 of the liquid diet. I was so grumpy when I got done, I had to take a nap!

Had a moment of breakdown tonight, but got through it. A good friend of mine was going through her clothes that she wanted to get rid of, and I told her that I wanted them if she was giving them away. As I went through a multitude of beautiful, barely worn, size 10 and 12 clothes, I just cried. I don't think I have been that size since I was in junior high school! The possibility that I will be able to get down to something that small is almost more than I can take! I am two weeks away...it can't get here soon enough. I'm already on an emotional rollercoaster...I hope I don't become a total basket case after surgery! Anyone else feeling like this?

my doctor and I decided on a "realistic" goal based on what he has seen. I am going this week to stock up my fridge...I love Crystal Light, so I'm planning on lots of frozen pops and snowballs when I get home! I'm not much on Greek yogurt, but they say your tastes change, so I guess we will see...We will need to keep in touch after our surgeries and compare notes!

Went shopping yesterday loaded up my spare fridge with waters, flavored waters, Premier Protein shakes, sugar free jello..plain Greek yogurt... I'm ready!! Surgery 10/30 MX

HW 250, CW 230, 5'5

How do you set your goal weight?? I have no idea what it should be!

I had all my pre-op testing done today! In my case, it was bloodwork, EKG, and complete series of abdominal ultrasounds.

Normally they do a lung x-ray and upper GI, but since I'm so young and have no comorbidities, they didn't do them. They might end up adding it before the surgery, but I doubt it.

As we went along, everyone told me that all my results looked fine! I am actually feeling a lot less nervous now!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
