Just one more time

Recommended Posts

So finally told my mom that I have a date set for my surgery. She tells me "why don't you try dieting one more time. ". "Your brother is doing great at this all Protein diet." "You know your aunt Betty had it done and had diarrhea every time she ate anything"

Ok I should have never told her. I know that now. Am I backing out no. Second thoughts no. Pissed that she wants me to delay and try another diet yes. I explained to her this is my one and only shot. If I try another diet I may never get gastric done. I have tried dieting my whole adult life and look what I have accomplished. Gained a second person. Another diet will prove nothing that has been proven already. I can't diet. I need hard stops that tell me no you can't eat this. That's why I am going through with this.

This was just post by MrsGloMartin in post op bariatric surgery. Focus on the positive. Stay strong. This is her post....it is titled 5 1/2 months post-op... "Wow! I am excited, elated, and obliviously happy about my decision to have weight loss surgery! When I look at photos of me before and after surgery my first instinct is to praise God for the doctors who did the surgery and the nurses, heck all of the employees working in that hospital who made my surgery uneventful and ensured my speedy recovery! Next I get overwhelmed with emotion that ranges from crying and then laughing because after 20 years of being obese and unhealthy I am now healthy and a few pounds away from my goal weight. I am grateful for the support and information I get from all of you here and I thank my god that even though we are millions of miles aprat I consider all of you my family. To anyone reading this who is feeling unsure or afraid my wish for you is that you will not give up because you will love the new you just as much as I love the new me!!! I am walking fiv emiles every day and I can mop my floors withour any back pain or being overcome with shortness of breath. I am off of my blood pressure meds as they were causing my blood pressure to drop too low, my HC1 test is now ata normal range as I can no longer tolerate anything sweet, no articifical sweetners for me I only use blue guava Syrup (10 calories per teaspoon) when I need to sweeten a drink or my hot Cereal in the morning. Life is good for me and my family now as I am more active with my grands and great grands now that I am healthier. I pray that everyone experiences the same results or even better ones as you journey on the road to a healthier, happier you. God Bless :) ".

@@micmt your story is my story. It's due or die time for me too. It gets to the point where you feel like you are caught in a whirlpool that you can't get out of. You try floating, swimming really hard, with/against the current. Try a few new strategies here and there. Sometimes you feel like maybe you are moving towards the edge of the whirlpool and you might actually make it out if you keep swimming your heart out. But at the end of the day, you know you are caught and you "never going get out." It's a prison.

I know this is my only chance

PS. A part of me still doubts it will work. I am going to be very surprised if it does and that's the honest truth

Sometimes telling friends and family is not the best decision. I was lucky, my family was very supportive. Some friends were great and a few were lacking. I got off 8 meds because of this surgery. Most of my bypass friends have a Constipation problem rather than diaherra problem. Life will be fantastic if you follow your Drs guidelines. The post above was fantastic.

I too am nervous. I am both afraid it won't work for me and that it will. Confusing right? :) I guess, I am so used to failure that it's second nature for me to go that route. Don't get me wrong I will be so excited to lose 100+ lbs. I am ready for the hard work and willing to put it all in. I wish you the best luck with your surgery! What is your surgery date? I am so happy for you!

My surgery date is November 4. I go in October 23 for my pre op appointment and lab work. On October 25 I start my 10 day liquid diet. Its a crazy fast schedule once the insurance approval came in. Only took a week and a half from my last dr appointment to the insurance approval.

The holidays will be hard but come next spring I will be a new person.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
