When does the loose skin start to show up?

Recommended Posts

I’m about 35 pounds away from my goal. No signs of loose skin yet, though I’ve still got plenty of body fat to unload (maybe I have more to lose than I think!) I’m wondering at what stage in this process you begin to see if loose skin is going to be a big problem. I’m kind of hoping that if I don’t have it yet, it’s not going to magically appear in the next 35 pounds.

Does the loose skin happen throughout the weight loss, or is it something you don’t notice until you get near your goal? I’m hoping the most surgery I’ll need after this is a little Lipo and maybe a Tummy Tuck, instead of getting my entire body lifted and shifted all over the place.

I'm at 90 pounds down and have a very little loose skin on my lower tummy and some on my upper arms, but nothing I would consider surgery for. I have 65 pounds to go to make goal, so I'm really hoping it won't be too bad since it's not really that bad now.

It's hard for me to tell. I'd like to think I won't get it-haha.

My upper arms and lower tummy are flabby from fat, so how would I know if it's skin or fat? It's always been pinchable and wave-able (come on, conjour up some visuals!).

I'm down 62 lbs, and have a little sagging here and there. I am in the same boat, not sure if its skin or fat? Either way, I'm living with it and praying it will shrink. Time will tell I guess.

Age plays a huge factor in skin elasticity - also your initial weight and how you carried it. If you carried all your weight in your belly and had signigificant stretching of the skin, you might be predisposed to having lots of loose skin. A friend of mine lost well over 100 lbs and had very little loose skin afterwards. He is 28 and works out alot both cardio and weights. I myself when i lose weight notice my skin becomes looser. But all my weight has been located in the same area and i have stretchmarks. some people just have great genetics too - and you may never need any post surgery altering. Keep up the great work

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
