muzikgal21 12 Posted October 11, 2014 So, I started my pre-op diet 5 days ago. It is the opti fast diet, consisting of 4 shakes and one Protein Soup for the day, plus any sugarless drinks and fat free broth I would like. However, the last two days I have done nothing but throw up everything I consume. I feel miserable. I called my nutritionist and she says she hasn't heard of anyone having problems, but I'm wondering if this is true. Have any of you had this same issue? What did you do? I honestly don't know how I will make it through two weeks of this.
BeagleLover 1,020 Posted October 11, 2014 The only thing I can think of is, does the Protein powder container/package have an expiration date? Do the shakes taste good to you? I use powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and found them to be very palatable. tfarr 270 Posted October 25, 2014 Tis the season for all sorts of viruses floating about. Maybe you picked up a stomach bug?
cruise2snorkel 2 Posted October 25, 2014 I'm on day 3 of "New Direction" Meal Replacement and having a hard time due to taste. Required to have 4 products a day and it tastes horrible to me. Have made a few in the wonder with sugar free pudding for flavor, ice and Water. Makes it more tolerable but I burp it up for hours afterwards.
muzikgal21 12 Posted October 25, 2014 I didn't pick up a stomach bug. Unfortunately, for the entire two weeks, I was sick. I threw up pretty much everything I drank. My body wouldn't tolerate the drastic change. It was horrible. I stuck through it though, and my surgery was on the 21st. I am home now, on the full liquid diet, but with less restrictions... And I don't have to have everything sugar free as long as I Water down my juices and such. I feel much better physically, but I am counting down the days until I can actually eat again. Good job on sticking through it!!!! My surgery is 11/26 and I have started the liquid diet today per my nutritionist. The Protein Shakes they have me drink are Premium and u get them at costco or Sam's club (the cheapest). They are very tasty!
akcota 1 Posted October 25, 2014 Oops I mean they are called Premier Protein not Premium...
muzikgal21 12 Posted October 25, 2014 The shakes I did were premiere Protein from Sams. I started with the opti fast, but that for sure made me very sick. Premiere is what I am using now.
akcota 1 Posted October 25, 2014 I like them so far...I'm not a big chocolate fan so I I bought the vanilla and strawberry! Both pretty good!
muzikgal21 12 Posted October 25, 2014 I'm not a chocolate fan either, but I don't like their vanilla. And the strawberry has seeds in it so after surgery it will have to be strained, so I don't use it.
akcota 1 Posted October 25, 2014 I would love to hear updates on your journey! I'm really nervous about mine. The biggest obstacle I see is preparing separate from my family.

Are the Premier Protein shakes ones that are already mixed and not in powder form? The "New Direction" product I have is powder that I mix. I feel like something already mixed would taste better. They come in cases of 12 at costco or Sam's club but Sam's price come out to about $1.39 each which is the cheapest I have found.
