10 days post op.. HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm 10 days post op.. On full liquid diet now.. I can take 3-4 spoonfuls of creamed Soup or drink anything..

When it goes down chest area I have pain and instantly get bloated.. WHY??

Then after it feels like it's coming back up... WHATS WRONG?? IS THIS NORMAL??

I feel like I'm not getting enough in during the day cause of this.: I went to Panera bread with my daughter and had a autumn squash Soup and had 4 spoonfuls .. That's it.. Pain and feeling it come back

Please need advice

Totally normal. The feeling in your chest is the Soup stopping before it gets into your stomach. Take much smaller spoonfuls to reduce this effect. And the bloating means you're full. You really just can't eat much right now because of the swelling. Just take it slow.

Imaher718. You are way ahead of me I'm scheduled for Oct. 17 (6 days from today). I went out and bought baby spoons. A friend that is 7 months out told me how hard it was for her to learn to take small bites. I fear that I will be the same way so I'm using baby spoons to help train my brain and hopefully keep me from becoming ill. As crazy as it sounds it might just be something you could try as well.

Good luck!!

Thank you for reply funny you say that

I did take smaller bites still had the pain but not bloated.. I used this time a long ice cream Sunday spoon.. Much smaller than what I used before..

Good luck to you in your new life... I have lost almost 20lbs so far and already feel lighter.. I know it's all a healing process..

Keep me posted on how you do.. Would love to hear from you ????❤️????

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
