NotWishWhen512 31 Posted October 11, 2014 Hi there... I'm 4 days post-op and am having a horrible time sleeping. I didn't sleep at all in the hospital (You know, they're always coming in to check on you) and now, at home, I'll try to sleep at night, and sleep for half hour and be awake for hours. I'll doze a few minutes here and there during the day, but nothing substantial. I know my body is all off from surgery. Totally get that. But the exhaustion from not being able to rest is effecting me mentally and I don't want it to. Did anyone else experience this? Also, did anyone find any good sleep aids (like melatonin, etc) that helped? Thank you so much.
jenbaby75 283 Posted October 11, 2014 I haven't had my sleeve yet, but I didn't sleep for days after my ankle surgery. I would doze for 30-45 min, be awake, and all groggy for hours, doze again. I think it's a side effect from the general anesthesia. You just have to wait it out.
Miss Mac 6,262 Posted October 11, 2014 Post-op, I was pretty restless for while, but by the time that first 30 pounds came off, I was sleeping much better. There were fewer bathroom trips in the middle of the night (I was waking up and going every 20-30 minutes). As I started losing, the bed started feeling bigger. I was able to roll over more easily, too. Now, I can sleep for six hours at a time if my neuropathies are calm. If the are acting up (in spite of taking Lyrica) and disrupting my sleep, then I will take Walgreen's Sleep Aid mini-caplets. It takes about 1/2 hour to get to work, but results in better sleep. I used to take Nyquil Nighttime until it started burning my throat when I developed GERD and esopagus problems. But that Nyquil, man......it works so fast that you gotta take take stuff while sitting on the edge of the bed. If you take it in the bathroom, you will be sleeping on the floor. JCP 619 Posted October 14, 2014 I took pain meds as it was so difficult to get comfortable at night. Mornings, the pain would be minimal. Night, not so. They helped me get through the worst if it. I recommend it as you really need your sleep.< /p>
