Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?

Recommended Posts

I don't think I was at a "low", just maybe not as high? LOL

I am 1 week post-op and I'm finding that my weight loss is gradual which I kinda like. I think this will minimize the amount of hair loss and loose skin that I can potentially have. I feel great and look forward to the next step every day. :)

I just started on this journey. I wieght 190 at 5'1. My BMI is 36. I feel like I may have made the wrong choice. I hate not being able to eat real food. I am not good eating the right foods and I am losing nothing. Would love to hear how others in this group doing now please

I absolutely love your positive attitude! I just had surgery on Dec.16 and it has been hell. I am sure it's my own fault. I can not stick to the all liquid diet and cheat often. My weight loss has been very slow. I actually weighted a pound more at my three day post op. Clearly I severely mis understood my dependence on food. I want so badly to make this tool work but I just don't see it happening.

I also had a low BMI when I had the sleeve (30). If I had the chance to do it over I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT. I eat very very little, and because of this I cannot gain weight… At times I feel very weak at best…

Every time I go out to eat it’s a big waste of money as after three to four bites I full.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
