Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is this Thursday, December 11. I have a BMI of 35 and my current weight is around 192. I keep second-guessing myself thinking do I really need to go through this drastic surgery, but I know I can't do it on my own, I've been dieting since I was 12 years old on and off yo-yoing my entire life. It's just starting to get real and I guess I am scared. Preop diet has been hard and I'm feeling hungry a lot. I'm hoping at least some of the hunger pains will go away after surgery. I do have sleep apnea and a slightly elevated blood pressure so my insurance is covering the surgery. Freaking out a little!

You sound just like me! 192 pre-op diet 186 morning of surgery and sleep apnea. I am 1 month 5 days out and couldn't be happier! Don't get me wrong the first two weeks were tough but I would do it all over again!! I am as of this morning 164.6 I had a 12 day stall that everyone experiences and totally panicked. Once I got through that I have consistently loose .5 lb everyday or sometimes 1 lb a day. I am walking 3.5 miles (takes 1 hour) 5 days a week. Eating 2-3 oz at a time mainly Protein then waiting 30-45 minutes to drink. I use my timer on my phone for every meal to make sure I am eating slow (30 minutes) You will do great it just takes some planning for meals and I never leave the house without a Quest bar or turkey Jerky just incase I get stuck somewhere without a good choice.

I had a BMI of 32 when I had my surgery 13 weeks ago. I'm now down 35lbs and losing around a pound a week. I'm struggling to exercise, my energy levels are still zero, but on the weeks I do manage it I lose a little more. The gnawing hunger I felt each and every day has gone, and I feel as if I have my life back.

I do still struggle to eat enough in social situations to avoid questions, especially with the family. My work colleagues are used to me being on one diet or another so just accept it! Only my partner and four close friends know what I've had done.

The answer is in your diary entry.."I've been dieting since I was 12"...This will be a permanent fix.. and also a permanent tool...I am 5'1, my HW was 199, SW was 193, and CW is 176...I was sleeved 10/22/14. I never had any second thoughts.

LaBuz I had the same doubts the week before surgery in fact I almost backed out but went to my support group and they asked me if I've been able to keep the wt off successfully. My answer was no and that made up my mind. This is my chance at getting to goal and staying there. I only had one day of not feeling well the rest have been very easy.

Low BMIer here as well! 1/10/15 is my surgery date and I can't wait! Super excited to be hopping off the "I've tried every diet, pill, gimmick, exercised my butt off, cried my self to sleep, self loathing and self hatred" roller coaster and getting on with living! Can't wait, Can't wait!! And anyone that is having second thoughts....go try on some clothes, stand in front of the mirror, or have someone take a picture of you FULL FRONTAL no hiding behind anyone! That should remove all doubt!! LOL!!!!????????

May I ask, to everyone who has replied, are you exercising and if so, what are you doing?

I am doing my elliptical 3 days a week for 20 mins, plus I am also doing PIYO 5-6 days a week following their workout program, but not their diet. My eating style is Paleo. I'm doing great and feel amazing! :)

Jodi-S. I have been getting up at 5 every morning and doing on MWF "The Firm" 20 minute exercises. They're interval training w/ cardio, weights and a mix of both. Then I do on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday the "Brazil Butt Lift" program. Very intense lower body workouts. I'm pear shape and even though I've lost 35 pounds, butt and legs are where the weight seems to hang... On Sunday I do a 15-30 minute stretch on You Tube.

Is there any such thing as a butt lift? Once I lose the remaining weight, I know I"m going to have extra skin on my butt and thighs.

My BMI was 30 on the day I had surgery on 8th September 2014. My BMI is now 25, I have had no complications after surgery and the loss has been slow and steady. I love my sleeve.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
