Lower-end BMI Sleeve Surgery. Any others?

Recommended Posts

My starting BMI was 34. I was sleeved on 9/9, I lost 16 lbs in the first 3 weeks, then the scaled stopped moving for 3 weeks. At exactly 6 weeks it started moving again. Total loss now since surgery is 20lbs. I'm excited to see my progress.

I'm at 21 now. I had the same stalls. Looks like we are moving along at about the same pace.

I'm still at a loss of 33lb in almost 11 weeks, not overly pleased with that, was hoping for quite a bit more by now, oh well, at least it's a loss and not a gain. I'm just too impatient 24lb more is my goal. 35lb more would be great but I'd be happy with another 24lb :-)

May I ask, to everyone who has replied, are you exercising and if so, what are you doing?

Hello everyone. Im so happy to hear there are others out there like myself. I was 239lbs before my surgery with a BMI of 35. I stand 5'8" I was once 398LBS but lost most of that weight on my own. I just never couldn't get less than 200lbs.

Well, on 8/5 I was 239, had the bypass on 8/12 but was 226 after doing the pre-op liquid diet, 195lbs after 7weeks, now im at a stall....lol 44lbs total

Im happy to understand that im not doing something wrong in my program after reading everyone's post. The slower weight lost is to be expected since the excess weight that i do carry isn't a drastic number.

I would like to thank all of you for sharing your thoughts, opinions, and experience. It has truly been a great tool to help me in my journey! Xoxoxo's

It is nice to hear from some of the lower BMI people. My surgeon used to say that "I" was a peanut compared to all of his other patients. I feel like I'm not keeping up pace with weight loss, but since I am starting at a lower number 224 on surgery day, I assume that my weight loss is going to be slower. I am currently at 214 which is similar to what I have been for several days (I know...I do a daily wt which I have to stop). I was sleeved on Oct 13, got advanced to soft/mushy foods today which I am very excited for!

I have a lower BMI (33 at surgery). I'm only two days post-op but feeling good so far. The doctor said I would lose about 10 pounds the first month or two and then slow down to 2-3 pounds a week. The restriction should increase over time with you feeling the old fashioned type of full after about 2 months. Hope this help!

I was sleeved on 10/22/14. My BMI was 36.7 on the day of my surgery. My insurance covered my procedure %100. I'm down 13.5 lbs. My height is 5'1 and my SW was 193.

Update for other low BMI, 4& 1/2 months out. Lost 40 pounds first 3 months. Stalled for 3 weeks and in the past few days dropped 3 pounds.

I'm at 147.4 with 10 pounds to goal. If more comes off I'm happy.

Still not working out like I should. But trying to up that. Cut out Protein bars to help with digestive discomfort a few days ago.

I love this thread please keep posting.

My BMI was 35 the day of surgery. I was not hungry and kind of had to force myself to eat for the first few weeks. Once I got onto soft solids though, things started to feel normal again. New normal, but more normal :-). Hunger returned about 3-4 months in, when I was on regular food, but restriction remained and remains still at 13 months out. I lost slowly (rather intentionally tried to keep my calories as high as I could and still lose at a decent pace), and reached my goal range about 9 months post op. I didn't stall much, (maybe twice I had no loss at all or a gain during my loss phase, although there were weeks I didn't lose more than a fraction of a pound). I started focused exercise about 3 months in and continue it 5 days per week today, which I'm sure has made all the difference. I feel GREAT now!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
