Stephanie Kandace 69 Posted October 11, 2014 Hello all, I am due to start my pre-op diet this wednesday. Yesterday I purchased everything I need and tried a shake for dinner last night and was so disappointed with the taste. My surgeon wants me to use Bariatrix and I hate it but will force myself to drink it because it's necessary. But I am wondering if I can use my nutribullet to make some fruit and veggie drinks and just add 2 scoops of whey Protein in there. Anyone else do this? As much as I do not want to do this pre-op, I am so excited to do it because it's that much closer to my date but I just can't handle the taste alone and after spending $150 on the supplies, I refuse to let it go to waste. HELP!!!!
finediva 979 Posted October 11, 2014 You will need to ask your surgeon or NUT this question. My surgeon had me on 3 Bariatric Advantage shakes a day. Period. For the first week I was allowed a very small lean meat and green veggie meal, in place of one of the shakes. She really did not want me to have it, but stated I could it the first week if I was having a difficult time staying on the program. The second week, just the three shakes. I was told absolutely no fruit. Every plan is different. I followed my surgeon's guidelines. Best.
alwaysvegas 702 Posted October 12, 2014 My nutritionist was/is very strict on sugars (limit to 5 or less per serving). You'll definitely want to talk to your nutritionist/surgeon as fruit juice is very high in sugar.
JerzyTomato74 91 Posted October 12, 2014 I would double check with your surgeon but my pre-surgery diet instructions aren't specific to the brand of powder I have to use. It just says that it has to be 20-25 grams of Protein, low carb and around 220 calories with skim milk OR 12 oz of Isopure RTD.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted October 12, 2014 My surgeon did stress that for the pre-op liquid diet to make sure to use Meal Replacement shakes (not all Protein supplements are meal replacement).
Stephanie Kandace 69 Posted October 12, 2014 I'm supposed to have 4 shakes a day along with a Soup or Jello. They didn't really stress sugars or carbs, just the importance of having the 4 shakes a day. I am also thinking about maybe using 4oz almond milk and 4oz Water to mix with the shake. I'm just trying to do anything possible that will make me follow thru on this liquid diet instead of failing miserable like so many other diets i've tried. JerzyTomato74 91 Posted October 12, 2014 The Soup would be a good opportunity to add unflavored Protein powder, same with the Jello. I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday but I only have to have two Protein shakes a day and a 300 calorie dinner with a salad and FF dressing. I will savor that meal every darn day I have to be on this diet! LOL I find that if I stay busy, I don't think about food. There have been many times where I get started with something like cleaning the house or a project and can go half the day without eating or even thinking about food. Drink Water before you eat/drink your shakes so it helps to make you feel fuller. Good luck and just know that it won't last forever! I say that as I remind myself of the same thing! Packerfan61964 293 Posted October 12, 2014 Mix your Protein (flavored or unflavored) with your sugar free Jello and drink it. I mixed my chocolate Protein with sugar free peach flavored Jello and it was suprizingly pretty darn tastey. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
