6 month pre op no weight loss

Recommended Posts

The end of this month will be 3 months into my 6 month pre op and I am trying and nothing is happening. Will that keep me from my surgery? I'm freaking out.

I am on month 5 of the same thing. From what i under stand of my insurance requirements, i cannot show any gains during the time period, loosing wieght is okay.

Reckon it all depends on your insurance requirements.

I had to do a 3 month weigh in and my weight went up and down, month 1 was 283, month 2 was 293 and month 3 I weighed in at 285 and I was still approved for my surgery. I think it depends on your surgeon and PCP, not so much your insurance. Clearly we are gaining and losing all the time and that is why we need the surgery in the first place. I don't think you should worry at all. I think you should be excited instead that you are half way there...Good Luck!!!

Well never figured i get on the scale this morning and seeing i have lost 99 pounds already. All am am really doing and seems to be working for me is cutting out soda, and replacing them with Water, herbal teas and crystal light.

Stoped drinking beer, eatting bread, Pasta, and etc. Was hard to do but it does get easyer, also switched to an all organic diet made up of lean meats, chicken and white flaky fish.

Also eat alot of salads, and apples. and instead of 3 big meals a day i eat 6-7 smaller meals which 6 months ago i would call Snacks -_-

Have also started using Protein shakes to get used to them for the hope to be up coming WLS.

Oh and i have replaced food items like salt and vinger potato chips with a bag of lettuce and some salad vinegar. To take care of the crunchie munchies.

Sorry for the long winded banter.

If you eat good foods and try walking or replacing a few meals with shakes you should be able to lose a little weight. I try to do that 5/6 days then one day I eat more what I want. I'm losing 2-10 a month and not really trying except to make better choices. Since I know I'm going to have to anyway . My dr only had me lose 14 to meet my preop surgery weight before they gave me a surgery date.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
