4 days post op. Help please

Recommended Posts

I can't finish a Protein Shake in a day and drink fluids. Premier shakes taste good and have 30 grams of protien in one bottle. I just have not been able to get a full bottle down in twenty four hours. I also tried to walk a bit on day two and started leaking from surgical site so I went to ER and been in bed since. Should I be moving around now?

Iptreg I can relate I had surgery oct 7th and also cannot get down 1 Protein Shake. I keep sipping the Water and every 2 or 3 hours taking sips of premier shake but I remember that they told me 60 to 80 gms of Protein is the goal we need to work up to it. I also had some leaking put steristrips in place and chsnge bandaids every so often but I am walking around too today there is much less drainage. Just feel supper stuffed with water and the little shake but every day a little more hydrate and walk is my main focus. Good luck to you.

shakes will take time. I am suppose to have three a day, but two is my max and that is with 4 oz of Water with the Protein mix.

I'll be 2 weeks post op on Tuesday. I still can't drink a whole shake either. Your not alone. I'm still struggling with the Water. I want to gulp a big glass of water. I was drinking almost a hundred ounces of water before surgery. I feel thirty all the time. I might drink 24oz a day now. Maybe! It sucks!

Sipping stinks but you have to do it many times an hour every hour. Flavor water helped me, maybe it will help you as well.

I have been totally able to drink Water and my Protein shake. Reading all these posts I think something is wrong with me??? 4 days post op.

Nothing wrong with you. Sometimes it just takes one's body longer to adjust.

If it keeps up, call your surgeon.

Hope things get better soon :)

Walkin you're not the only one. If I try hard enough I can get in 64oz of Water plus my Protein and meals. I just hate drinking water. Even sipping I can finish my liquid meal in 20 minutes. I don't gulp N water but can take more than 1 sip at a time.

I'm 11 days post op and have had no issue drinking fluids either starting at about the 5th day post op. I guess some people just tolerate differently

To Everyone,

Everybody's journey is different. Every body is different and will react differently. Ideally you want to drink shakes 3 times a day, but initially the idea will be to just do what you can. I know when I was trying to get Water and Protein shakes down post surgery my life revolved around always sipping on something. It was a giant pain in the butt. It just takes time to get the timing of everything down and to get your body used to it. I would recommend taking the little 1oz. plastic cups that come with a medicine bottle and use that to make sure you drink that amount of liquid every 8 minutes. It will seem tedious and possibly drive you up the wall, but believe me it will help. My doctor told me to count the number of oz. of Protein shake I took in a day towards the total amount of liquid I would need to take in. In the end just take your time and try to constantly be sipping on something.

For those that feel they are taking in too much, you are not. Consider yourself lucky you do not have to deal with trying to get down your daily Water or Protein. Be sure you are at least taking half an hour to and hour to drink your full shake so you don't stretch out your stomach, but other than that just keep to your plan. It will work out in the end. I promise.

Everyone keep up the hard work. For those of you who are just recently post op, welcome to the rest of your amazing life. This will be the most exciting and life changing experience you will ever experience. Take the time to enjoy the journey.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
