9 days post and no energy at all.....Normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm 9 days postop getting my 60g of Protein and 48 - 64oz of Water in and having a huge sudden energy drop. Is this normal? For the 1st seven days I felt great, off all pain meds after 2 days then all of a sudden yesterday I felt extremely drained. Could it be due to my losing 1-1.5lbs a day? I'm getting in about 350 - 400cals daily also.Anything I should be doing that can help with energy? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lateese- I had the exact same issue but mine was at the 6th day. Day 10 today and I am starting to feel the energy come back. I started getting some Soups in rather than just Protein Drinks and Water and that seemed to help me. For me it was very frustrating going from don g great and walking tons to no energy and getting dizzy.

Thank you so much, my symptoms exactly including the dizziness but with hot flashes also.

I would get the hot flashes when my stomach was turning. So good to hear that I am not alone . Reading most posts I hadn't seen anyone with the lack of energy.

I had no energy for about 3 or 4 weeks. I'm at 8 weeks now and energy levels are as good and often better that pre-surgery.

I'm 2 months out and yes I had the slow down of energy early out. I would be exhausted after taking a shower. I talked to my surgeon and he said I should feel better after I leave the liquid diet behind and get to "real" food. (This is not a suggestion to run out and start eating meat if it is not time to do so according to your plan).

Before the change of food I had to fight through the exhaustion. I knew that not moving would only feed the want to sit and do nothing. So after a few moments I got up and made myself move. It will get better!

Thanks for this topic. I am 5 days post op, my energy levels are so low. Like SCLosing it said, taking a shower is so exhausting I have to sit for a few minutes. I know I am suppose to be walking, but I don't believe I even have enough energy to do that. I find myself napping. I have to go back to work Monday, and there is no way I can function with this fatigue and light headed symptoms.

What Soups were you allowed to have ?

I can have any of the "cream" Soups and Tomato made with milk. So far cream of chicken, potato and tomato. I do have to our the Soup through a sieve after heated to make sure no chunks are getting through. I usually have a 1/2 cup of the Soup with 1/2 cup of skim milk and it takes me about two hours to finish.

At 5 days out I only had broths. Like chicken, beef or vegetable broth, but now I'm on full liquids so Im eating Tomato Soup, cream of potato (soup broth only), chicken noodle (broth only) and things like that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
