Stomach pain and can't hold down liquids

Recommended Posts

SO glad you went, and that you are feeling better already. Good that you hooked up with a new bariatric doctor. It's so important for us to have the right ongoing care :)

Phew. Any thoughts on what caused the condition to start with? So happy you are feeling better. Have a nice relaxing weekend.

He said really anything. Getting something stuck, vomiting too many times etc. I was also reading about it and it said NSAIDs put you at a greater risk for esophagitis. Well, I've been taking aleve every day for foot pain.

New fun thing this morning! Pooped my pants while driving to work! Ugh. Guessing it's from everything my GI track has been through lately or I really did pick up a bug. Idk, but I'm home on the couch and probably will stay here today!

Oh dear. I hope you feel better! Take it easy -- and hope the foot pain resolves, too. I use those Sole brand inserts and they are life-changing.

If anyone with a band (or other WLS or condition) can't hold down liquids it is important to realize that you can become dehydrated very rapidly! Vomiting, diarrhea, etc. quickly exacerbate this condition!! You do not want to become dehydrated--you will end up in ER with IV fluids!!!! Don't ignore the symptoms.

In my pre and post-training for surgery, I was told absolutely NO NSAIDS. Advil used to be my drug of choice, but I rarely take it anymore. Once (months after surgery) I had such a bad headache, so I emailed my surgeon & asked if it would be the end of the world if I took some Advil. He said I could take it, but to take it with Pepcid or Prevacid; some acid blocker to protect my stomach. The Advil took away the headache, and I rarely, if ever, take it anymore. Bad news with WLS.

I'm glad you're feeling so much better. And SO glad you found a bariatric doctor to help you out. I don't think they would have know what to do with you in an urgent care facility.....or an ER.

Debbie, I was never not going to go to a doctor. I was just trying to figure out who to go to. I didn't want to waste time and money going somewhere that couldn't help me. I was scared and shocked that my surgeon had just disappeared. I was on this site while I was also trying to find somewhere to go. I am so glad there were people here who would respond to me while I was waiting to get help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
