My first time at a restaurant!

Recommended Posts

I'm 7.5 weeks post RNY and have been scared to death of restaurants. Yesterday was my mom's birthday so we picked Olive Garden b/c I knew they had the Soup lunch deal. I was so happy to eat 2 bites of salad, 6 pieces of calamari and half a bowl of Soup (I skimmed out the kale and sausage for Protein and Vitamins, left the broth and potatoes). It felt great to feel like a real person again, and I had no stomach upset all day!

Good for you. I am 17 months post-op from RNY surgery. I eat at Olive Garden alot. Generally I order Tortelloni al Forno from the small plate menu. It is the right size for my stomach and full of flavor. When I sit down to order, I tell them no breadsticks. I have Water with a sprig of lemon. When the check comes, I tell them no candy. It is a tasty meal for $4.

That's great, Amy. I'm 3 mons out from surgery and I've been to several restaurants, but really don't get much enjoyment out of eating out any more....

I am 2-weeks post op & had to go out of town yesterday. I had 1 ounce of yogurt about 6:45 am but at 5 pm I hadnt eaten. I had drank Water & a Protein Shake in between. So on our way out of town I told my husband I just need a place with chicken noodle Soup I could drink the broth. My body was hungry I was weak & shaky. I saw a taco bell. I ordered a side of Beans for 30 cents no cheese & no sauce. I ate the beans scared hoping they were low fat. Thinking I was going to get sick. Nope tolerated them well. I told my husband I'm a cheap date. Haha

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
