Shaelya 10 Posted October 24, 2014 I'm 5'2" and my weight has always hovered around 200 lbs, but in the last several years it's been creeping up, despite my efforts to keep it in check via exercise and using myfitnesspal religiously. I finally gave in and admit I need help, because after 20 years, I still haven't figured it out. The only way I have been able to lose significant weight was with the aid of a prescription, phentermine, but obviously as soon as I stop taking it, it all comes back. I have my first consult with the surgeon next Monday. I am a bit worried that I won't make the BMI cutoff of 40 (I have no co-morbities), but I am starting to get cautiously excited about the prospect of finally being able to have a chance of being thin, for once in my adult life. I am interested to follow others in our similar weight/height predicament as well.
SwimSlim92 10 Posted October 24, 2014 Shaelya I know how you feel because diet and exercise never seemed to be enough for me either... I took phentermine as well and like you said it helped but it would trigger my IBS a lot and make me sick quite a bit and every time I went to a doctors office or a hospital they would think I was a drug addict because it would make me pop positive for speed or something like that... I know how frustrating it can be to try it all and be depressed every time it doesn't work, but we are all here for a common cause of taking back our lives so take comfort in the knowledge that you are not alone. Hi you didn't say how much you weigh now, just that you hoover around 200 but it has been creeping up in the last few years. Well I will tell you if you are serious about wanting weight loss surgery I have known people when they have their height measured do not stand up completely straight. Also try to go to your appointment in the afternoon, after eating Breakfast, lunch and drink a lot. Lastly if your weight is way under the bmi of 40 I have heard a couple people say they have gained wieght like 5 lbs or worn some ankle weights. I didn't have to do anything. Although I was scared because my bmi was kind of low, I am really 5'0 but was able to be 4'11" for the measurement went meant I only had to weigh 200 instead of 205. Best of luck to you. Shaelya 10 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Thanks for your help, appreciate it! I am currently as of this morning 39.9 bmi. My appt is this afternoon! I have just finished eating a very carb heavy lunch, along with 3 waters so far. I have all my heavy jewelry on, jeans, etc..! The funny thing is, my weight fluctuates a LOT with Water weight. Just 2 weeks ago, I was 218 without trying. It was all Water weight, right before I started my period. Go figure. I am right on the borderline of 40 bmi. I am hoping the surgeon scale weighs heavy (who would ever think I'd be wishing for that, for once in my life!) I have to weigh 219+ to be at a 40 bmi. I hate it that I feel this way, but I am desperate. 20 yrs of trying, I need help. I am 100 lbs overweight, give or take a few lbs. It would be silly to not be able to be approved for this because I was just under the bmi limit. I might not have comorbities at the moment, but I am sure they will happen eventually if I can't get rid of this weight. Shaelya 10 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Just got back from the seminar/consultation, and I made the 40 bmi cutoff with a weigh in of 222, and they said I am a good candidate for the surgery. So now it is just down to dealing with insurance and getting their approval. Edited October 27, 2014 by Shaelya

planningband07 52 Posted October 28, 2014 I'm 5 feet and 1/2 inch. I started at 216, I'm now 198. I had lapband with plication August 21st, 2014. I have not had any fills yet (my band is @ zero). I have changed what I eat, but not as much as I will if I decide to get my band adjusted. I'm taking it slow because like you said, we are not "as big" as some others, and I'm also not that concerned about getting down to 120... My dad died from being morbidly obese, weighing almost 500 lbs at 65, and I had the surgery to prevent me from getting anywhere close to 250 or 300, which both my aunt and my grandmother are.
