If I eat too much or too fast I definitely feel some pain. It feels like constriction in my esophagus, right in the middle of my chest. I'll be 6 weeks post-op on Monday.

I must be incredibly lucky, I don't have much pain. I have two feelings, normal and stuffed like Thanksgiving dinner. That makes me a little uncomfortable for a short time but it's in my stomach, not my chest.

I can't figure out how much to eat so I get enough but don't feel so stuffed. Especially when I'm never hungry to start with. It's not like I can eat until I'm satisfied. I'm satisfied all the time thanks to this fantastic new frankenbelly.

I'm right there with ya. For months post-op, every bite would cause Frankensleeve to start grinding. It felt like rocks in a garbage disposal. I stuck to soft foods like refried Beans and ground turkey for a long time. Most fruits and vegetables were tough to get accustomed to again... and don't even get me started on whole wheat bread. :-) By 6 months most foods were going down okay, but fiberous stuff like pineapple and salad took a few more months before they went down easily. I thought it was kinda ironic that eating the healthy stuff was much harder on me than eating processed foods post-op. :-P

I am 8 weeks post op. I need to eat very small bites and turn them into mush before swallowing. I can eat almost anything, but pork. I carry a fish fork with me to slow me down and take small bites. Guess we have to remember we will always have a smaller stomach, When I forget and wolf down a couple of bites I really suffer.., and its dificult to figure out when I'm full. One extra bite can be a killer. My doctor said it would take at least 6 months to fully heal and learn to eat again. We are learning to eat all over again, like a baby. But, it's worth it...I'm down 60 pounds!

I am four weeks out but have noticed that I will gain 2 to 3 pounds. Very discouraged about this. The nurse told me as we loose fat from muscle it is replaced with good muscle tissue when we exercise. I know that sounds correct but I have waited so long for the scale to go.in reverse. I Need not going the other way. I have lost 34 pounds so far

Losing 34lbs is something to Celebrate. Someone gave me good advance, stop weighing yourself. Just continue to work on your eating habits, exercise, stay positive, and watch your clothes become bigger and bigger on you...lol I understand how you feel but you will stress yourself and get discouraged if you put too much into keeping up with how many pounds. You are on the path you have been waiting for, enjoy the journey sweetie. You will be just fine????

I've discovered that I stall if I don't take in enough protien and Water. I gain weight when I get dehydrated...guess my system just hangs on to every drip, When I start a proper water intake, I usually lose the gain plus a little.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
