Hey all, I am currently finishing up my last couple doctor appointments and am curious as to,how long my insurance will take to give approval once documentation is submitted. Can any one that has BCBS share how long their approval took? I am hoping to have my band in by Christmas, but I've been told BCBS takes 60,days.

I have BCBS too. If I remember right, my paper work was submitted late Sept, I was approved early Nov, had my meeting with the surgeon mid Nov, and was banded Dec 13, 2011. I am extremely grateful to BCBS for paying for my surgery., Im not sure I could of done otherwise. It gave me my life back, Im VERY happy and healthy now. Good luck !!

I have bcbs ca, my very first apt was April 2, 3 days later they submitted everything to insurance, ins came back 30 days later saying we want 5 more months of nutritional classes for a total of 6, went to those may thru sept, resubmitted, ins came back 2 weeks later with approval, and I was banded on oct 3, so in a nutshell, start to finish was 6 months

I have BCS of AZ. I'm done w/all my required appts. Its been a week and 3 days since my surgeons office submitted all the paperwork. I called my surgeons office today and they told me that my authorization is in "the pending phase" it can be up to another week before I hear anything back, oh the waiting game. Good luck to you!

It's definitely a waiting game. I'm so excited. I hope I get to have mine in December as this is my Christmas present from my great mother. I just can't wait to have my confidence and self esteem

I have BCBS-IL. They only took a couple weeks to approve me. (Banded April 2013). My doctors office is VERY organized and they submitted everything correctly the first time. Also, once the paperwork is submitted to BCBS, wait about a week and then call them yourself. I double checked that they had everything they needed and they gave me a verbal acceptance right then over the phone. I was able to schedule my surgery for 1 month after my official approval. Good luck! I love BCBS-IL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
