Day 10 Post Op Question

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am new here. I've been reading for weeks but this is my first post. I had my sleeve on 9/30. Today is day 10 post op. I lost 8 lbs last week right away. The last several days I have not lost anything. I'm on full liquids. I'm getting about 60 g Protein a day on average and maybe about 400 calories. I don't know if my body is in starvation mode or if this is normal. I lost 18 lbs during pre op so I'm a total of 26 lbs down. I know that is good but I don't know why the scale has stopped moving. I'm thinking maybe I need to stop weighing myself!

It could be that you need to consume more in order to burn it, If your body is in starvation mode it could be in a stall. try taking in more protien, you are probably still on soft foods like applesauce etc...but try to give yourself some more food and that will help. Good luck!

That's what I was thinking too. I'm still on liquids so not sure what more I can add yet. I can add some stuff on Tuesday though. Thanks!

I also had my sleeve on the 30th. I called my Dr and asked if I could had food. They let me add frozen fruit. Call your surgeon and see what they say. Happy Sleeving.

I lost 7 pounds my first week post-op but only 0.4 pounds the second week. I've had "slow" but steady loss since then. I lose 3.8 pounds the second week and about 2.5 pounds per week the last couple of weeks. Some people have huge losses right out of the gate. That hasn't been the case with me, but I AM losing and I've talked to my nutritionist about what I'm eating and how much exercise I'm doing and she has reassured me to just keep doing what I'm doing.

Thank you Jamie. That sounds like what's happening with me. I just got off the phone with my dietician. She said that it sounds like I am doing great. She said that 8 lbs the first week after surgery is a lot. I feel better now. I asked about adding to my diet but she said not until the 14 day mark so 4 more days!

I have been a slow loser every since I had the surgery. But that is OK. I am on plan eating 800 -900 calories a day and exercising. I don't want to compare to others because we are all different and our bodies respond differently.... Based on many factors. Age, male vs female, overall weight loss required, height, etc etc. I see it if I have not gained this week I am a success! Ha. Steady eddy as they say. I have eventually reached my goals along the way and have not set time limits on when I should get there. First - one-derland. Met that goal. Next reach my low weight that I achieved on my last diet. Met that goal. Next lose 50 lbs. very close to that one (I am at 49 today). Next goal will be to get in a size 10. Have not seen those jeans in YEARs. I will eventually reach my final goal and go into maintanence. No idea when that will be, but yes! I WILL get there. All of us will if we stick with the plan! What a great gift this tool has been for me!

I am a 9/30 sleever too and also seen the scale stay the same for the last few days. I'm more frustrated with the amount of energy I have, or the lack of it. I cannot wait til Tuesday to be able to eat something rather than drink it.

@@jjinWA - I love your goals!!

I am a 10/2 sleever 1 week out today. Yesterday my surgeon let me add soft food( yogurt, mashed potatoes,etc.). Make sure you get in enough Protein At least 80mg so Your body will lose fat not muscle. I am down 11lbs today and feel Great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
