Hey, Thanks for the info on this everyone. My hair has been falling out in clumps also. I have very thick hair, and I am hoping it will grow back.;)

Your surgery was 4/19. From everything I have read it peaks at between 3-4 months. ;)

I am really praying that it won't happen.:nervous What else can you do besides Vitamins and protien????

I've been drinking Protein since about the 3rd or 4th week after surgery, I have been taking Vitamins since day #1.

I'm currently doing 60gms Protein daily, 1 flinstone chewable Vitamin six times daily (vitamins don't absorb well), Biotin that I forgot the strength, and nothing seems to be working.

I have a hunch it will happen or it won't regardless of what you do. However, I also keep calories very low and have since surgery. Maybe that's it. Honestly, I kinda think it is the anesthesia.

Every one does so well on their diets low carb. -NO FATS- low cal.........

This disscussion was brought up at one of my pre-op behavioral classes...

;) The dietician said "most people will tell you that lack of Protein or other things, cause hair to become brittle and/or fall out"... she said that after weightloss surgery the most common reason is actually... lack of fats in the diet!!!:faint:

Imagine a dietician saying some people need to eat more fat!!... :hungry: (she actually recommended GOOD FATS;)) ..like nuts and olive oil... without enough fat hair gets quite dry, brittle and falls out- some worse than others.

I can't say if this is related to your situations but worth taking a look at!!!:nervous GOOD LUCK!

I haven't been banded yet but I do some research on the hair loss and some information that I found suggested taking Biotin, zinc, Vitamin A & C, a complex for hair, skin & nails (Nutrilite) & Minoxidil (X-tra strength) for men. From what I have read the Hair loss does stop and you begin to regrow your hair.

It is supposed to stop and regrow but I'm telling you, when I have to clean my hairbrush daily, sometimes twice daily and my pony tail is REALLY small now compared to what it was, it's just freaky! It's nothing for me to pull out two handfuls of hair daily from my brush. It has to stop and quickly or I'll look weird.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
