geelynn 72 Posted December 6, 2014 Like the previous post, I am loosing more hair than pounds at this point . . . I'm 4 months post-op, lost 64 lbs. total and my hair just started coming out in clumps this past week. My stylist also noticed at my last color that she didn't have to apply as much as it is not growing. My weight loss has also stalled. I get all the Protein daily and take my Vitamins. I even use WEN hair products, hoping that would help. I'm encouraged to read that it will stop, and although I was aware of the side effect, it still makes me sad to see all that loss on a daily basis off the wrong end of my body! bluesclues 49 Posted December 6, 2014 I'm 5 months out and have lost a TON of hair....more hair then weight loss....it's really scary because I already have very thin and fine hair. All I can do is use Toppix to cover up the thinning areas. It's normal after surgery apparently and no Vitamins or anything can help. I'm thinking of getting hair extensions, but might not be a good idea b/c still losing a ton of hair daily
CrashNCamsMom 58 Posted December 11, 2014 My stylist recommended a product called Nioxin. It had great reviews and all of her clients that use it swear by it. Gonna give it a shot. Can't hurt. ☺ I'll let you know if I see results
naturreal 7 Posted May 22, 2015 I'm almost 6 months in & last month I noticed some thinning... I make it a point to take my Vitamins & get my Protein in but as I read on, some people just get it & some don't. Now it's getting thicker but I'm hoping it will fully recover. I have locs & don't want to start all over again. I'm 3 years into my locs so if it's really noticeable I'm going to have to start over.Yea, I've got locs too. I am worried because if my hair thins I know they will start to break off and then I will have to cut them. I've had them for 15 years and it would be a drag to have to start all over again. I am hoping I am one who does not get the hairloss. I noticed major losses in my locs, thinner roots, but I'm hanging in there. They aren't where they were when I began the growth it out but it's still growing & holding strong. I was tempted to cut it all off though because it's noticeable to me, but oil treatments & more gentle care have been working out this far.

Newlife@55 31 Posted July 16, 2015 I am almost 5 months out and my hair is falling out like crazy! I have been told it will stop at some point.....I am hoping so. I too have had a hard time getting all my Protein in but am starting to do whatever I can to increase to 80 grams in hopes it will slow down the Hair loss. Either way, no regrets! Small price to pay for as good as I am feeling! I feel blessed! So anyone having this issue....hang on, because I'm sure it will stop soon!
mechele8 63 Posted July 17, 2015 I'm natural as well but I take hair Skin and Nail pills. It helps. It scared the crap out of me at first because it was coming out in long clumps. Now I wash my hair and there's very little in the shower. I'm almost 4 months post op.
CrashNCamsMom 58 Posted July 17, 2015 Almost a year out and Hair loss has returned to normal. I'm seeing new growth, so I'm confident my hair will return to more of its natural thickness within a year *????
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted July 17, 2015 It's luck of the draw and every other factor you can name; age, hair textures, etc... I was already taking Biotin pre surgery because I am menopausal. I made it a point to hit a minimum of 75gms of Protein a day. I have bra strap length dreadlocs and I color my hair regularly. Around month 5/6 I noticed some thinning around my temples. By month 9 that thinning appeared to stop. I also started massaging my temples with emu oil and spaced my retwist out to every 6 weeks.

I started clumps of hairloss at 3 months and for the last 6 weeks it had gone from thick to quite thin. Am wanting to have my roots done because it's looking so shabby but afraid it will make it worse. Around how long post op did it last till. ..
hockeyfan7 249 Posted July 19, 2015 I have not had any hair loss at all. Not sure why since so many other people have.
wannaBthinsoon 1,634 Posted August 5, 2015 @@hockeyfan7 The hair loss generally happens around the 3rd or 4th month. You are early post op still. Hope you don't experience it, but like most everyone has said....it's just hair, and it does grow back.
1SlimmerMe 122 Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) I'm 4 months post op and noticed Hair loss about 6 weeks ago. I have relaxed hair and now I'm going longer between relaxers. I'm down about 70 pounds. I'd do it all again if given the choice. I can buy hair via clip ins, wigs, etc. My motto is "It's only hair, it'll grow back!"
