Does everyone experience hairloss?

Recommended Posts

My hair is non chemically treated and I ran into a lady today that she was like her hair feel out. Her whole prespective was very negative and when she was done with her horrible stories I was mortified. I was wondering does anyone not have that experience???? My hair is fairly long and thick so I am a little worried.

I have fine, thin, very slow growing hair. At 10 months out I have had no Hair loss. My "secrets"?....I've always gotten in all my Protein and I take a whole food based Multivitamin. I was mentally and emotionally in a great place throughout this process. I never stressed over the preop diet, the postop diet, the surgery itself, or any of the stalls or BM issues I experienced. Never took Biotin or used other hair products.

But really I have no idea if anything makes a difference. After reading dozens of posts on this subject I really think it's just how your body deals with the stress of surgery and weight loss. Pretty much just a crap shoot.

My hair is also natural (although in my profile picture it has been flat ironed). My hair texture is thin, fine and curly, not kinky and thick. I have not had any Hair loss as of 5 months post op. You may or may not lose hair. There is no way to tell if you will or not. Do your best to get all your Protein. I eat a lot of lean beef for my Protein. Maybe that makes a difference? Take your multi-Vitamin and make sure your Iron levels are good.

I didn't lose hair, (or didn't lose enough to tell). I've always had thick hair, (a lot per square inch) and have been coloring for years. Mostly adding color covering gray with a few foils for highlights. Based on what I've read here, it's kind of a crapshoot. I took Biotin and fishoil in addition to my other supplements, and have gotten 75+g of Protein, (1/2 from food, 1/2 from whey) from the start. Others have done all the right stuff and lose hair. I CAN say it did GREAT things for my fingernails! Best advice... follow your team's instructions and hope for the best. If Hair loss happens, it is temporary and will grow back.

I also have my hair colored and foiled regularly. I am 7 months post-op with very little Hair loss. I did start Biotin a few months pre-op and try to get at least 60 grams Protein a day. I agree that I'm not sure how much control we can have over whether we lose hair or not.

I am 4 months out and my hair is falling out like mad. It is noticeably thinner. However, I am not getting all my Protein in nor am I taking Biotin. I blame myself.

I lost 25% of my hair during the first few months of rapid weight loss, but it has started to grow back.

I dealt with hair loss when I was taking chemotherapy for my MS. I don't know why I would have Hair loss over this procedure. Who knows. I try to follow the food plan and concentrate on Protein above all others. I'm going back in because I have had too much nausea and I'm going to have the tube between my stomach and my intestines stretched. Never heard of that before, but my SIL said my MIL had it done every three months.

I am 10 months post op and I'm still losing hair but slightly and I didn't have any Hair loss until my 5/6 months post op and let me tell you I had very thick hair and it's fairly thin at the moment but I am seeing new Hair growth and I do have hope it starts to fill in again.. I do try and get my Protein in at least 60 a day and I make my own Protein Shakes because the store bought ones are not great..

I am five months in and started loosing hair like crazy last month. I am eating enough Protein and faithfully taking Vitamins. I luckily have thick hair. I got sick of finding hair strands everywhere so I just cut it really short.

I started losing tons of hair 4 months in. I took my Biotin & Vitamins religiously. I don't know what it is that causes it but it sucks bad & scares the crap out of you. The good news is it does stop and it does grow back. Mine went on for about a month and some change and boy am I glad it stopped. I started taking the It Works vitamins and that seem to have helped. I see lots of new growth so I'm hoping the worst is over. Hope that helps :)

At 10 1/2 months out, I think I have cleared past the hair loss event without trauma. There were a few strays about the house here and there, but no clumps in the tub or my comb. What did I do differently? I don't have a clue. My Protein has been at 80 grams, and I take 20,000 mg of Biotin every day (that's a truckload), but I can't tell whether or not it was just expensive pee.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
