Just a couple curious questions

Recommended Posts

1. Does any one know how long the staples remain in tact after surgery?!

2. How long does it typically take the stomach to fully heal (understanding that everyone is different)??

These are just a couple questions I didnt ask and wondered if anyone else did.

I haven't had surgery but it's in less than a month so I'm curious to see what others say. However, I still have the staples from having my gallbladder removed...so maybe the staples are permanent? I know healing takes about 8 weeks according to my surgeon.

My staples were in for 4 days and replaced with steri strips that came off within 2-3 weeks . Takes 2 months for full healing

The staples in your sleeve stay forever. Healing is going to vary, but I've heard everything from 2 to 6 months. It was about 4 months before I felt "normal" as far as sleeve sensitivity and tolerance goes.

The stomach staples are yours to keep forever.

Wow!!! I had no idea the staples were there forever. I wouldn't have changed my mind, but I guess I should have researched that before... Hahaha

I didn't know either until my chiropractor did an X-ray and said, "Look, there are your gallbladder staples!" and I was like Whaaaaaat? I saw them plain as day on the X-ray. Blew my mind. I've been through many airport metal detectors and X-rays since the surgery and never knew.

Wait 'til you fly...makes for a guaranteed pat down by your friendly TSA agent! ;)

Although they don't set off the standard metal detector, only the "hands above your head" 360 scan...you can see them perfectly in the screen!

Ditto above, I felt like I was 100% at about 4 months. I started hitting the weights aggresively at 5 months and never had an issue.

Good luck on your journey! :)

The internal titanium staples sealing the stomach pouch its self are yours for life. They are not detectable by a metal detector. They used surgical glue to close my external incisions, so no stitches or staples there. The glue fell off after several weeks.

As far as "complete" healing... I think it was about 2 months before I felt totally "normal". About the time I was release from most dietary restrictions.

The staples in your tummy are made of titanium. They won't set off metal detectors. X-rays will pick them up. But no pat downs.

Hello! Is this the only sealing method?

Yes. The instrument used clamps, cuts and staples in one action. Some surgeons will also oversew with absorbable or nonabsorbable suture, and some will use a tissue glue over the staple line, but the staples are always used.

Yep, for me, permanent titanium sleeve staples, non-dissolvable internal stitches in the abdominal wall that scar over, and glue on the incisions.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
