Questions before Nov 3rd surgery

Recommended Posts

1) I bought the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Medical Protein powder chicken broth & Flavored for shakes. I know the full scoop calls for 8 oz of Water or Milk but how much should I make (what will i be able to drink in one sitting) in the beginning (Phase 1 & 2?) I don't want to waste!

2) I am worried about hair loss ( I am already pretty thin) Should I get and start the Vitamin regimn that i get from the doctor and start it now? I am 3 weeks 5 days out.

3) My surgery is November 3rd. I know its crazy but Thanksgiving is always at my house and will be no different this year except Im not cooking my dad and sister in law will do the cooking! I will just start soft mussy foods on the 25th (2 days before thanksgiving) What are some suggestions on things i could "enjoy" Mashed potatoes (is a little gravy ok?) let me know what worked for you in the beginning.

4) Is a recliner chair necessary to sleep in after surgery or is the bed comfortable?

Thank You in Advance

1) Might be wise to start off with half a scoop and a 4 oz. serving. Especially in the first couple of days post op. I didn't have unjury, but I did have chicken broth and I could only finish a few sips in the first few days.

2) I started my bariatric Vitamins 2 weeks pre-op when I started my pre-op diet. Only time will tell if that will end up helping at all with hair loss.

3) If you can do purees and mushies at Thanksgiving, you could probably manage some mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce (as long as there are no chunks in it), maybe some apples out of an apple pie, maybe a little of the filling out of a pumpkin pie.... Obviously these are not ideal options for your day-to-day living, since you should be prioritizing Protein and limiting carbs, but those would be options you could successfully eat and digest at that point.

4) I slept in a normal bed just fine the day I came home from the hospital (day after surgery).

My surgery is the day BEFORE Thanksgiving and coming home the day of...but that's ok, in the long run missing a Thanksgiving is the least of my worries.

Normal bed is fine but, I have enjoyed a recliner when my belly was burning at incision areas and turning in bed was painful.

I would chop some turkey up and add I little gravy for moisture. You would probably only eat an ounce or so but that is a better option than potatoes.

I slept in a recliner or propped up on pillows in the bed for about a week

I started taking Biotin before surgery for hair growth you can order it online in a chewable

Just a suggestion but your blender is your friend. I have a ninja and it's a blessing. Take some turkey and gravy and pulse it. Add some mashed sweet potato (less of a glycemic hit) and pulse some green Beans. Unsweetened applesauce for dessert. Whalah! Thanksgiving Ala puree. Two bites of each and you'll be stuffed.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
