Week 2 post op question...

Recommended Posts

I just added 3 "solids" to my diet (cottage cheese, refried Beans, and eggs cooked any way). My question is, knowing everyone is different, how much were most of you able to eat in one meal (20-30 mins)?? I am eating about 3 tablespoons of these things. I "think" I feel full, but I also feel like I might be getting hungry again too soon. For now, I've been warding off the hunger with Water, which is fine, but I also would rather have the nutrients from food, if I should be eating more.

Let me clarify some... When I say I eat 3 tbls of each, I meant... I eat 3 tablespoons of one of these things for a meal.

This is very very normal. For weeks I was only eating tablespoons of food at a time. If you are drinking your Protein shake(s) and taking your Multivitamins you will be getting in nutrients and Protein. Don't worry about quantity of food - give your new tiny tummy time to adjust - especially when adding in "new" foods. Best of luck to you! :)

Two weeks out you may still have a little bit of swelling, which can make everything feel more constricted. My surgeon's advice to "eat until satisfied, not full". Sounds like you're doing that. When you get to solid foods, it's easier to measure because you can weight it. I can eat 4-5 oz of tuna salad or chicken salad, 4 oz of chicken, but only 3.5 of steak. Make sure you're getting in at least 64 oz of fluids, and if you're short on Protein, have another shake or a Greek yogurt. Calories aren't an issue because you won't get anywhere near 1,200 for a long time.

Our plan called for us to eat no more than 3 tablespoons of food at each meal at that stage, and it worked well for me. I didn't get overfull. I would say if you are getting hungry again between meals, have a Protein Shake if allowed, or have some calorie-free liquid like you are already doing. Hunger isn't fun but it also isn't an emergency -- you can get through it. It's more important to take care of your new stomach than it is to avoid hunger IMO :)

I am allowed on my plan to eat a few small meals so I usually will finish my egg or whatever in two sittings.

My calories have been consistently around 600 to 675 daily and I'm meeting my Protein each day with only one shake and the rest thru real food.

ETA: I think it's important that I clarify that I am 4 weeks out and wasn't allowed to start any soft foods until three weeks out.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
