Aetna- weight gain?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I've met with my nutritionist once so far. I had gained 4 lbs when she weighed me from the time I met with the surgeon at 284 and she weighed me at 288. My question is will I automatically be denied from that initial weight gain? If I'm able to lose that weight by my next visit, which is on October 16, and continue to either lose or maintain that weight will I not be denied. I'm just getting really worried over that initial gain. I also think it's a bit ironic that the very thing we're getting surgery for could wind up denying us the surgery that would help alleviate that problem. Ugh, oh well, please if anyone has some info about Aetna and all this please respond! Thanks!!

i have aetna also, and asked them for their requirements, which they promptly emailed me. all they care about is no net gain, which means at the end of your visits. however... i suggest that you also call and ask them to send them to you, as it's possible our employers have different plans with different benefits and different rules.

I have aetna too. Your first weight when you went to the surgeon and your last weight when they submit for approval is what they are going by. Hopefully your surgeon or nutritionist has you on a pre op diet. Just do all the requirements they want and you shouldn't be denied.

My nutritionist hasn't put me on anything specific. I've been doing ok with my eating, just finding the night time to be hard to stick to anything. For some reason at 8 pm I just want to eat everything in sight so it's been a struggle saying no to myself. I've definitely cut back but my weight doesn't want to budge.

Exactly!! I can eat a full blown dinner and then around 8 I'm like ok it's time for a snack, except snack turns into probably a 500 calorie meal, ugh. I've been doing hummus and triscuits as a snack, guess that's better than McDonald's or Wendy's. So frustrating to get past that mental hunger/ boredom.

Right! I've been havering yoplait light yogurt...not my fav and doesn't satisfy the fact that I'm wanting carbs and grease....BUT it does satisfy my need to feel like I'm eating. I've also started come on here and watching YouTube and walking my dogs when I feel like that...I think for me ...I don't know if you feel the same but a lot of it is boredom ...I eat to have something to do (of course I crave too) but it's comforting, tasty, and gives me an activity

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
