Those who had drains - how long for incision to close?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I had my surgery on 9/17. I had a drain and it was removed on 9/25. Its 2 weeks later and I am still having discharge from the wound. I thought it might have closed by now but I guess it hasn't.

How long did it take for your open wound from the drain to close/stop discharging?

Hi,

Mine oozed until it closed completely - about 2 weeks after. Then it scabs and itches like crazy :)

I was worried about mine at the beginning too. I am 6 weeks out now and it looks good. I kept it closed with tarry(sp) strips. 2 weeks ago I removed the strips (4) weeks out. I use antibiotic cream on it regularly. Clean it with peroxide daily. Hope you heal quickly.

Thanks to you both!

I hope it closes soon - the skin around it is getting raw from me having to change the dressing twice a day.

Mine was scabbed over about 24 hours after the drain was removed. It's still scabbed and healing and itches some. I have been putting Bio Oil on all of my surgical wounds for about a week and it helps A LOT with the itching.

That was my last wound to completely heal. I stood up at the bedside in hospital and stepped on mine and pulled it out. It didn't hurt, but it probably didn't help matters any. It did ooze for several days. I covered it with a bandaid for a couple of days. It made the ugliest scar too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
