CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted October 8, 2014 I would argue the main benefit of wls is setting you up for maintainance. I am nearly 3 years from my surgery and in retrospect it didn't really matter how quickly I got to goal. What matters is that i am still under my goal. jodyjetson 72 Posted October 8, 2014 Amen Cowgirl Jane - it's always the struggle I have. We have all lost weight before it's the keeping it off that is the biggest task. Great perspective!
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) only down 22 pounds. @@limbo6 the word "only" should be abolished from the dictionary don't recommend the beer, cigerette, divorce diet again 22 lbs is wonderful smile be happy and proud of your accomplishment one month down, a lifetime in front of you "this is a sprint, not a race" Kathy would you be disappointed if you read best seller in 2 weeks - friend read it in 1 week? outcome will be the same @@jessiquoi great analogy!!! kathy Edited October 8, 2014 by proudgrammy

JamieLogical 8,713 Posted October 8, 2014 I'm 3 months out and have lost (only) 24 lbs so your doing a lot better than I am! To be fair, you had a MUCH lower starting weight than most. Obviously the lighter you are, the more slowly you are going to lose. But I definitely feel your pain. Averaging only 6 pounds a month so early on would make anyone frustrated, no matter how low their starting weight was.
HaddocksEyes 205 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) I think it is really awesome you have lost that much in one month. At two months, i am almost at 30 pounds lost. And I am okay with that. I don't know if this is comforting for you but for me, I know whatever I lose is not ever coming back. I also know that even if it comes off slowly, it WILL come off because it HAS to. It's very empowering because before when I dieted pre-surgery, I always would think "how long is this going to take?" and "can I keep up this strict diet and exercise regimen long enough to lose all of this weight?" When I would lose slowly (which I would always do) I would just get so discouraged. As many have said (and it's so true) this is a marathon and not a race. Enjoy each hurdle as they come, knowing you have the tool to finally succeed. Edited October 8, 2014 by HaddocksEyes

Kindle 8,667 Posted October 8, 2014 Just stick with the program. It does and will work. I was only down 17 pounds at 7 weeks postop. Look at me now...11 pounds under goal. I never once whined or complained about my slow loss. I was just happy to be losing. If you can't stop comparing yourself to others or giving yourself unrealistic expectations, then stay off the scale. You didn't gain all your weight in a couple months and you sure aren't going to lose it all in a couple months. Seriously, just eat smart, concentrate on Protein and Water, relax and enjoy the journey.

DizzyLib 45 Posted October 9, 2014 Hi limbo! I remember being told when I attended Weightwatchers and many other books/articles that if you eat too little your body goes into starvation mode - it will hang onto your weight because it thinks there's a famine - we are primitive beings! I would eat all my suggested calories and see what happens next week! All the best - I can't wait until I have lost 22lbs - that's absolutely fantastic!!!! there's going to be much more! keep positive!
jenbaby75 283 Posted October 9, 2014 You may want to talk to your NUT about upping your Protein. When I was on a restrictive diet, I lost more if I added a little extra protein. Not much, but it made a huge difference in my loss.
jjinWA 511 Posted October 9, 2014 I stay on plan, eating right, and getting in plenty of exercise. My weight loss has been slow (in my mind) BUT I have never gained and that is enough for me. I go more by my dress size then I do by weight cuz I know the exercise is toning me and muscle does weigh more then fat. I have dropped several dress sizes during my journey so far. I'll take it and smile to myself as I look in the mirror each day. I pull out my jeans from the dryer and fold them, thinking those are so small, they can't be mine!!! Steady as she goes I say! I will be living this journey for the rest of my life. I will get to goal eventually.... Based on my own personal success and not based on other people who are working through their own journeys. Hang in there and love yourself and you will get there.
Jordan861 124 Posted October 9, 2014 I am almost three months out. Our loss is very close to the same pass. I lost 15 before surgery and 45 after. Your body is getting use to the starvation mode. Just stay calm you will lose. 22 lbs is great for the first month.
livvsmum 2,369 Posted October 9, 2014 I can relate to what you are feeling, but at the same time I can say, 22 pounds in 1 month is AWESOME! I remember being very close to that same number at my 1 month post-op point and thinking pretty much the same thing. But then I kept losing a substantial amount every following month (which didn't happen on those other diets) and I began realizing that this journey is different than before..... So take encouragement from someone who was pretty much at the same as far as weight loss at one month out, who went on to reach goal at 10 months and I'm now down 140 pounds at 12 months post op. You're on the right track, I promise!
