What to expect postop day 6

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow sleevers

I was sleeved October 1st so today is postop day 6 for me. My surgery went really well and I was not required to have a drain. My biggest issue postop was nausea, that was the worst. I was discharged the next morning in the am. Since then I have been doing fairly good. I have been totally off all pain meds since Saturday. I've been feeling a lil bloated the last few days, which make it a lil more difficult to get my fluids in, but with the help of gasx I'm doing ok. I had my first postop appt. today and my surgeon said I look more like I'm 3weeks postop and he's very happy with my progress. I feel very blessed that thus far I've been managing well and I thank god and my friends and family for all the many prayers and support.

I'm posting my early progress because I found that it was hard to find many people posting early progress reports, and this was an area that I was very interested in.

Please post so pre op sleevers can see what to expect from all stages.

Thank you for posting your post-op status! I have a hard time finding those kinds of posts also and am very interested. Looking back, do you think you were well prepared now that you've had your surgery? Did you find something that you didn't think of beforehand that you wished you had?

Hi, and Congrats on your surgery! During this period of your recovery you are very limited to physical activity. Your main concern at this stage is getting in as many shakes and fluids as you can and Walk, Walk, Walk!! I did early morning and late evening walks. Good luck.

Yes, JerzyTomato74 I was very well prepared, I read lots of posts on this web sight, looked at utube videos, looked up recipes and food suggestion for the upcoming plans and went to the support group that my doc offers. Everything I read prepared me for the many possible outcomes that could happen but nothing could really prepare me for my own person experience. I too like every1 else feel a lil head hunger but a few sips of my Protein and I'm too full to think of eating anything else.

I Can't think of anything I wished I had. I wore my outfit to the hospital that I was planning on going home in. Loose fitting stretch pants and a nice long roomy shirt and flip flops. I took some gas X strips as suggested but did not need until the next day home. Took my toothbrush, deodorant, iPad (didn't use), chapstick, robe/slippers...that's it, needed nothing else.

I too was sleeved on 10/1 so I'm 1 week out..I haven't experienced the painful gas everyone was talking about...but the only thing I'm experiencing is the acid reflux in the middle of the night. I haven't taken any meds for it yet but I will definitely be getting some today. My pain has been minimum, on day 3 I was released from the hospital I really didn't need anything but chap stick a hair brush and a change of clothes to go home in the hospital supplied everything else. On day 3-5 I had mad restriction my main focus was fluids fluids fluids I was and still afraid of getting dehydrated..now that I'm able to to get in a little more in I'm starting on my Protein on day 6-7 that's my input so far one week post op I've lost a total of 11pounds, it's kinda like omg I'm disappearing lol its definitely something to get use to

I am 2.5 weeks post op. I am not back to work and plan on taking next week off also. I have the burning pain in and around incision and some back pain. I began the "puréed" foods yesterday but must rely on Protein Shakes for Protein. I am feeling more emotional.. No regrets about the surgery, but it will be a tremendous amount of mental effort to get the new way of eating to feel normal. No naps, but in bed early tonight.

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on October 8th and went home the next day. The surgery was not at all as bad as I had anticipated and I only took a non-narcotic pain med twice in the hospital. The gas was (is) uncomfortable but my tummy is getting softer each day and I am getting around very well. I am anxious for all of the swelling to go down though. I still feel pretty distended, but I had an abdominoplasty a few years ago and my surgeon had to pump me up with enough gas to get good visibility for this surgery.

I am getting in all of my liquids. I was on Clear Liquids for 2 days post op and am allowed to start Protein shakes, yogurt and puréed fruit today....yummy!!! I woke up at 5 am this morning craving something besides broth and crystal lite and made my first shake with puréed strawberries. It was absolutely delicious. I had no trouble getting it down in a million sips????. I have not weighed yet...am saving that for my first doctor's visit. I am 50 years old. I started at 239 lbs. 2 weeks before surgery, was 228 the morning of surgery and want to get down to 165. I am 5'9". I was in an anesthesia fog for 2 days but am pretty much back to normal now but still a bit tired and a little weak from no food. All in all, I think the hard part is behind me and I have set a new new life course to being healthy. Have had great loving support from my husband who is the most wonderful man in the world. Hope all of my fellow October sleevers are doing great too!!

This is true, and the more the merrier! Here is the message I've been sending everyone:

Since the group is secret, direct links to it won't work so I have to invite people via email unless they're Facebook friends. If you'd like to send me your email address, I'll send out an invitation right away.

Hi there! I wish I'd been able to spend more time on this board before my surgery. I was sleeved on Oct 6th. I was pretty well prepared going in. Afterwards was a bit of a shock. It just didn't occur to me that I'd be so sore. The drainage spot is better but the place where I think they did the removal is still quite tender. My stomach is soft but sensitive to pressure so figuring out what to put on to leave the house has been challenging. LOL! I feel really bloated, so seeing that several of you have used gas x strips gives me hope. The doctor never mentioned it so I have not used it but wondered why it could not be used. I can't wait to go raid my cabinet to see if I have any! Are the pills OK? They're pretty small. I have felt absolutely bloated up to my ears. I'm also so sick of Protein Shakes I don't know what to do so I was glad to see comments somewhere on the Protein Jello with Unjury. Just ordered some! I could not take 2 weeks off from work so I'm working from home. The problem is, I've been so tired I can barely keep my head from hitting the keyboard. When I take a nap, unless I set a clock, it ends up being a minimum of 2 hours - usually more. Thank God my boss is flexible. I've learned a lot in just the small amount of time I've been on the site today. I will make a point of checking in daily. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
