Protein Chips-yay or nay? Fav flavors/brands?

Recommended Posts

So I'm only about a week post-op (SD: 9/30/14) but I'm a planner, as it helps me stay focused. I was in the Vitamin store yesterday and the guy at the counter told me about Quest Protein chips. Unfortunately, the store doesn't carry it yet, but he raved about how great they were. Anyone try these? Or other brands? I've found Ips, Kay's Natural Protein chips and finally Simply Protein Chips on Amazon. All come in different flavors. I had no idea these things existed! They are low in carbs, fat and sugar and high in protein.

Anyone try these? Any suggestions? Dislikes?

sub'd for the results.... something crispy sounds good right now. I need to go get some kale outta the garden and make my own chips...

Hmm, I looked up the Simply Protein chips and honestly I don't think 11 grams of carbs per serving is very low carb. I think it's better to not substitute one slider snack type food for an old favorite, i.e., protein chips instead of potato chips. I would focus on eating high protein foods that will engage your restriction, such as meat, fish, and eggs.< /p>

I make Parmesan cheese chips --'tuile' [sounds like "tweel"]--I think it's called. I put a recipe in one of my posts, but it's something like this: Easy to make in the oven with the ~ 2 cups of shredded parmesan cheese; parsley, a little garlic/onion powder, a sweet & low. Toss together; spread on parchment paper in flat pan. Bake x 15 min till browned just a bit. Let cool, then crack into pieces.

This sounds great!! Thanks for the recipe.

You're right about the Simply Chips. They had the worst reviews, and that was one of them. I'm interested in the Quest chips bc they are comparable to their bars, which were hard for me to get past a few bites, and a quick way to get some protein. I also agree with focusing on more natural protein sources, but I'm looking for some variety and "treats" that will fulfill some head cravings while still providing nutritional value.

Do you happen to have any good recipes for puréed foods? I saw the ricotta bake and refried Beans, but looking for more.

Thanks :-)

Now now. I know you had your surgery AFTER me, so no crispies for you yet, mister! I don't know what the specifics are from your nutritionist/doctor, but I'm not allowed anything crispy or crunchy until three MONTHS post-op, so I'm pretty sure you have a while to wait as well!

I've never tried them because I find them too high in carbs. But, I guess if I were to choose between Protein chips or regular chips, I would go with the Protein ones! ;) Can't be any help with recommendations as I haven't tried any. Just read the labels carefully to make sure of all the nutrition facts. I think a lot of times things are labeled as "high protein" but are also high in sugars or fat or carbs or something else. know what I mean?

Here are the stats. I'm a Newbie but a planner as well, so I can relate. I've read the reviews and they have all been positive as far as taste and compared to regular chips quite tasty. If anyone has tried them, please let us know.

They look good but knowing me I would probably have like three bags. If it is TOM, I would eat the whole lot of them. Wait, I am thinking with my pre-op tummy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
