I am on day 8 of my 14 day of my pre-op which is 3 Protein shakes a day plus a lean cuisine and a cup of veggies for dinner, Two issues have cropped up and I would like to know if they are common. For the past two nights I've not been able to sleep, or if I finally doze off, I have horrendous nightmares. This even though I take Trazadone f or sleep. To complicate this, I'm also having severe restless leg syndrome - something I rarely have. I know this too shall pass, but just curious about your experience.

I live in Mountlake Terrace WA and am having my gastric bypass 10-14 at Overlake Hospital with Dr Jeffrey Landers. Would you like to buddy-up for this journey?

Yes Janny I would love to buddy up. So happy to find someone on here close to me. Of course you are going first so that certainly should help me. I've never been a good sleeper but my advise to anyone is to not fight it. I read a lot. Or get up and knit. But the more you worry about not sleeping the more you won't sleep. I just saw dr landers for the 1st time last wed. I didn't see him long enough to decide if liked it didn't like him. I'm pretty motivated so if they told me to eat nothing I problem would do so happily!

Hi good luck to you both! If you are not used to Protein powders or the frozen dinners. Watch the additives and the salt. The additives can cause many different symptoms. Salt can cause your blood pressure to go up. Hope the next week and a half go better. After surgery hope you feel better. I sure do!

I'm allowed some veggies with my preop diet. Veggie salads, California mix, broccoli, green Beans, carrots, etc...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
