Hello all!

I am having a vsg October 9th with Dr. Garcia at the Florence Hospital. I am super excited but very nervous. For those of you that had surgery with Dr. Garcia any suggestions? Does anyone know if the hospital has wifi?

Yes, there was wifi!! Take a couple of face towels with you.... Odd but the hospital didn't have them. Not sure if they were out or just don't provide them. You'll need them to wash up with the days after surgery.

You will be in very good hands! The first few hours after surgery I felt like crap, but then started moving around and it passed quickly. Just don't psych yourself out, I have a bad habit of doing that. Just remember what you are there for, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and think about the rest of your life. :)

It could not have gone better. My only regret about my surgery is that I waited so long to do it!!

It went great! They take such great care of you at Florence Hospital during and after. I must say the first night was a total nightmare but the following days were alright. I'm feeling good just miss food so much haha. I would choose Dr. Garcia all over again if I had to. His team was amazing!

Gas pains are horrible! As sleepy and tired as I was I made myself get up to walk because that was the only thing that helped the gas pain. I was also very nauseous so I spent the whole night gagging cause I wouldn't actually throw up. You just have to keep calm. The next morning at 6am I felt as normal as can be. Still a little bit of gas pain but walking helped. I must add that Dr. Garcia's team came every hour or two and would give me medicine to ease the gas pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
