DaddyMarie 291 Posted October 7, 2014 Hello, I am 5 months out on October 7th an am down 62 lbs.. Last month I started loosing hair. Tons of it. Luckily I have a lot of hair but it's annoying when my back is covered in my hair every day. I pull it out in the shower and when I brush it. It's awful and annoying. I knew this would happen.. I know there are threads on this but I'm looking for some fresh perspectives on how long this lasts??? I have been taking Biotin and Multivitamins since before surgery. I get 60 grams of Protein in a day and wash my hair with good Hair loss shampoo... I just wanna know how long?!?!?
Jessiegirl30 149 Posted October 7, 2014 I am sorry this is happening to you , it is lack of Protein , you should talk to your GP or surgeon about it if you haven't already , I am 6 months out and I have been lucky I have not lost any hair I was super scared about that because I have very thin hair ,anyway I hope it stops for you soon

McButterpants 2,846 Posted October 7, 2014 I had a lot of hair loss - A LOT. My loss started at 2 months and lasted thru month 6. According to my doc, your body thinks that hair is optional (I disagree), so if it thinks your body needs help elsewhere, it won't take care of your hair. I don't prescribe to the lack of Protein theory - I never had an issue getting in my Protein minimums. Some people lose, some people don't. My doc said that you can take things to help the regrowth - she had me take Biotin and Folic Acid. I went to a shorter cut (that was hard, but I'm kind of liking it now - it's cute). I used Nioxin, again for the regrowth. I used Toppik to cover up the thinning spots. I'm at month 10 and my stylist just cut my hair over the weekend - she said, "I don't know how it's possible, but it seems like it's coming back in thicker!" I don't know if that is true, but it is coming back.
BellaLuce4 261 Posted October 7, 2014 How much daily Protein is everyone getting? And what type if Shampoos do u recommend ?
Nevermind 117 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) I started with super thick head of hair. I'm not really sure about the Protein aspect cause I think I've had decent Protein, but my hair started falling out about month 3-4 (I am now almost 6 months out). It was very distressing because my kids said , "omg mom, your hair!" I've taken Biotin since before surgery and it does cause new growth but doesn't keep the hair from falling out, in my opinion. Having said that, I bought Neocell Super collagen + C , which has Biotin too, at Sam's Club and started taking it a couple weeks ago . I am not sure if it's coincidence but I think my Hair loss has slowed significantly. Plus, I just cut it pretty short which makes it easier to take care of, especially since I am working out so much. I think it's just temporary and certainly worth it....in my opinion. Oh I have 60-90 grams of protein a day and use Wen. yllwrose 30 Posted October 8, 2014 I'm almost 5 months out and am having the exact same experience. I talked to my surgeon and he told me that it is only temporary and that it will stop in a few months. He recommended liquid essential fatty acids (he suggested Whole Foods). They have a few different flavors, I got the Orange Cream. I take a tablespoon at night before bed. I also just happened to need to buy Vitamins, so I made sure that I got a multi-Vitamin that also had additional hair, nail, and skin health.

sw-jdh 8 Posted October 8, 2014 Hi i am scheduled for surgery soon and that is my biggest concern. I have supplements of Biotin 5000 mcg, a multi Vitamin, msm, folic acid, and zinc plus a b complex 50 mg. I have read and been told these Vitamins are good for your hair.< /p>
kimpossible67 608 Posted October 8, 2014 I'm exactly six months today. Mine started at month 5 too. It's distressing but it's just hair...it grows back. I will go 2-3 days a week between shampoos. I don't blow dry, straighten or curl or color. I use no hair products.
