Easterli 12 Posted October 7, 2014 My sx was on Aug 25. Down 31 pounds. I can drink slowly so I get my Protein Shakes in. I can eat fish, shrimp, crab - goes I'm great with no problems. Beef, pork, and chicken - including eggs- not so much. I chew them to mush but then they feel like they're just sitting there. Heavy lump in chest, takes quite a while to go down. Vomited once after pork. Is this common at my stage? Does it improve later on?
Rogofulm 2,440 Posted October 7, 2014 Pork and chicken are particularly tricky because they tend to be drier. Try moistening them up with some unsweetened apple sauce, or some other sauce that's not high in sugar or starch. And, of course, you can try chicken salad or ham salad with light mayo to moisten it up. I don't seem to have as many problems with steak until I eat one bite too much. Then it may not stay down. Is it possible that you're overstuffing your sleeve? This can also happen if you drink fluids too close to mealtime. Good luck!
Easterli 12 Posted October 7, 2014 I'm careful about how much goes in, so that's not it. Are they harder to digest/take longer to digest maybe? eggs are a little tough also, no matter how I prepare them.
Mayaresearchmom 104 Posted October 7, 2014 @@Easterli I had problems with eggs to start with. I finally found that the only way I could have them was as egg salad. I talked to my NUT, and she said quite a few people have issues with eggs, and that it is easier to handle boiled mashed up eggs than scrambled or fried to start with. I have also found it easier to digest boneless skinless chicken thighs instead of chicken breast. It's all about the dryness of the chicken breast.
NavyMom2006 119 Posted October 7, 2014 This is great info. I just got cleared for soft food, cream of wheat, yogurt, cottage cheese, so you're all preparing me for the future. Thanks!!
madwife2002 110 Posted October 7, 2014 Cream of Wheat is a life savor-I eat it every day with Almond and Coconut milk 4 months out and I still struggle with chicken-sometimes it makes me feel awful so I do avoid it. If it is moist and with a sauce I am able to get it down eggs used to be one of my favorite foods but I keep away as they just don't go down well no matter how I cook it. bread is similar and as much as I try I just don't like 100% whole wheat My NUT and surgeon did not allow pork until 3 months
McButterpants 2,846 Posted October 7, 2014 I started out with eggs and had no issues (my surgeon pushes introducing foods immediately - I had soft scrambled eggs on day 5). When I started to introduce other Proteins, beef was the hardest for me. Pork didn't set well at first either. If you try something that doesn't agree with you, try it again in a week or two...your body and tummy are adjusting. I'm 10 months out and have no issues with any Proteins now. Raw fruit and veggies are a different story! :-)
