Anyone travel for work?

Recommended Posts

I travel pretty much constantly for work. I was just sleeved on September 7th and was just wondering if anyone else travels and how they manage their diet.

I travel occasionally ...probably once every 2 months. I did travel about 3 weeks after I was sleeved and was surprised by how well I was still able to stick to the plan. I usually get a room with a mini fridge so I can stock it with my "necessities" ...ie, greek yogurt, low-fat cheese sticks, and Protein shakes. That way I know that I have an option if all else fails. I also find that I am able to find something to eat at almost every work function or restaurant.

Hi. I travel every week. I was sleeved on 7/31/14. I am fortunate because I am able to rent a car in many of the cities so I found Wendy's to buy chili, a grocery store (sliced turkey breast!) and a GNC/Vitamin Shoppe for Isopure. I bring my Protein shakes and bars (once I was allowed to have bars again). I also try to stay in a hotel that has a fitness room and a mini-kitchen so I can heat Soup.

If I must eat in a restaurant, I volunteer to select the restaurant for the group so I can choose a place that has options for me. I can find an Italian restaurant and order meatballs or lasagna (and not eat the noodles). I also found Qdoba and Salsarita's for refried Beans.

One last comment. People are interested in what they are going to eat. I haven't had anyone comment on what I order, how I order or how much I eat (or don't eat). Do what makes sense for you. Good luck!

@@Rsims1985 yup, it's not easy. I work for an Oil company, and spend 16 days away from home and then home for five days. I'm on my first shift away from home since surgery and it's not easy. If you can tolerate (and I can't) Protein shakes, you've got it made. I still eat with everyone, but only a few bites. I've never hidden from anyone at work that I was sleeved, so they all understand my two mouthfuls and I'm done routine. Good luck!

I was wondering how you were coping. Good to hear you worked out a plan. Try the Syntrax Nectar it just taste's like fruit juice or something similar anyway. I use the fuzzy Navel it's a combination of orange and peach

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
