meat? I'm pre-surgery and my sister in law's sister had a bypass 20 years ago and to this day she cannot eat meat of any kind! I love meat, I would like to hear from any of you that can or cannot eat meat. I'm especially a steak eater. I realize I won't be putting away anymore 16 oz ribeyes!

I eat plenty of meat. Lean ground beef once a week, beef Jerky like daily almost, steak a couple of times a month... Have never been much of a pork fan... Anyhow no problem with any of it after about four moths. Before that it was a bit hard on my stomach.

I eat more turkey, chicken and fish than I do meat, just to clarify, but meat isnt a problem and fits into my eating plan just fine. I am at goal (feels weird to say that, just got there yesterday) and 10 months out.

I am 2 weeks post off. so I don't knw what I will be able to eat. Like you I love meat - consequently when I made this decision I had to do it on a "worst case" bases -- That is I assume that one long term result would be that I would not tolerate meat. I did that because no matter how many anetodtal stories of WLS people enjoying meat, I could be the odd person where that was not true. I wanted to make the decision assuming that worst would happen

I'm 6 weeks out and I can eat baked fish, boiled chicken, hamburger so long as it's tender and juicy like in spaghetti sauce or chili, and deli turkey; those are the meats I've tried so far anyway. My sister had RNY in 2006 and pretty much eats what meat she wants, just small portions.

I don't know what I'd do without meat. I make an excellent ribeye and my hubby usually eats the other half of my steak and I take the rest of what I was eating to work the next day for lunch. I has to be tender though otherwise it sits in my tummy like a brick. Pork chops are a no go for me.

I've had no issues with meat, had bbq pork last night, but I follow my NUT advice and chew on it for at least 30-45 secs. I'll tKe about 5-7 small bites (a few ozs) and stop so I don't overdo.

I am 4 months out and have tried hamburger, turkey meat, pork, halibut, tilapia, shrimp, and chicken. At this point the only thing I can tolerate is on occasion chicken and have no problems with fish & shrimp so I try to stay with that. My friend who had the sleeve eats turkey Jerky almost daily to get in her Protein. With Jerky though you need to watch the sodium.

Good luck to ya!

So far I see that my ability to tolerate foods keeps changing. This week I can eat one think and go down just fine. Then next week it won't go down right at all. I would keep trying a variety. I am thinking right now if I had trouble with something I don't want to go there again. I think maybe I don't need to have that. I tried steak and oh boy i was sick. I am thinking I hadn't had anything that tasted so good and I ate it too fast. :)

Before I had my surgery, I ate all kinds of meat. After surgery , when I ate meat, I threw it up. Its like chewing on flesh. Ugh... but I do have meat once in a while. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
