Shaking it up.....

Recommended Posts

I've been worried about the weather changing and the need for working out indoors again after an amazing summer of outdoor walking and some biking, etc. Well, today was the day to go back to the basement. Arthritis flares up at less than 50 degrees and we've had some mornings in the 30s already, so I think the jig is up. I've worked out for years on a treadmill, recumbent bike and BowFlex but it's only post-band that I've truly embraced exercise. It was amazing to feel the difference in the basement -- 3.8 instead of 3.0 as my base speed and a total of 90 minutes now instead of 60. I am so happy that I'm still going to be able to get my "high" and I can tell that the strengthening is going to be good . So here's to our winter routines and making them work for us. I got the tech straightened out so I won't have to fool around with getting music up (today was Pandora Latin dance music -- good beat to keep moving), and I cleaned the basement. Now to get some better lighting but it's coming along. Looking forward to my ninety minutes tomorrow morning. And looking forward to getting another chunk off -- pretty sure this is the ticket to that.

Bummer on the cold damp rainy weather, but like you, I incorporate a variety of upbeat music to keep me moving. When I am doing housework, I crank up the music channels on my Direct TV. My favorites are the Classic Rock Workout, and the Modern Workout channels. Since I don't generally like the fake-a** music on my workout and strength training videos, I put them in the CD player, put it on mute, and play a some Pandora Music as background. I would much rather lift free weights to "Oops, I did it again" than elevator music!

Thats terrific! Its inspiring to see that kind of positivity and dedication!

Music is SUCH an important motivator to me, I really feel the difference in my workouts when Ive got a great playlist set up for my mood of the day. Sometimes I go for lyrics that hit home for how I want to feel while working out, sometimes I go for a moody vibe with songs that help me zone out, and sometimes all i want is a deep, heart-thumping bass that keeps my momentum going :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
