14 Day Optifast Liquid Diet

Recommended Posts

Well today starts my 14 day all liquid Optifast diet. I started this Journey over 10 years ago with my high weight being #423 over several years I was able to lose 175# with diet and exercise and kept it off until 2006. Then I had a heart attack at my lowest weight of 248#. That started the gain back and other health issue too. When I decided to go WLS my weight was 360 # about 6 months ago. My Surgical clearance was 333# so that is 27# loss over 6 month monitored weight program. Today I start the all liquid at 327# Just 4# away to get my 100# loss back. It will be interesting to see what my day of surgery weight will be. If you are the praying type like me, I would appreciate some now till surgery on October 20, 2014!!

Great job on pre-op diet and congrats on your future sleeve!

I have watched so many in my family battle obesity and I ended up losing a few pounds and gaining back double over the years.

My highest was 337 and I'm 5'4, so I'm like the girl on willy wonka that turns into a blueberry lol. I got down to 320 on supervised diet and that was a struggle! I lost another 10 on preop diet and last Monday at my weigh in I was 304! I haven't been this weight in years!

You may have days where you wonder "what did I do to myself" but if you read on here, we all think that during the first few weeks! It really is making a huge difference in my relationship with food.

Even though I am 2 weeks post op today, I no longer wake up wondering what I'm going to eat today, that behavior reminds me of my friend who wouldn't get out of bed before having a cigarette. Her life revolved around them, and my life revolves around food. It feels like the sleeve helped me break up with food lol. Now I only eat to get calories in and live!

Eat to Live!

Yours is 5 days before me. I was told my surgeon doesn't do liquid diet till 2 days pre op. However I've been drinking 2 Optifast a day with a dinner of meat and salad and for a snack a can of tuna and salad. That has helped a lot I haven't been as hungry as I normally am ????

So good luck and keep us updated.

Started my 14 day Optifast liquid diet today too. Tomato Soup is gross. I can handle the chocolate and vanilla. I'm hoping the chicken Soup will be good otherwise I'm on sweet stuff for two weeks. Got my EGD tomorrow and other pre-op tests. Outside of hating the Tomato Soup, it was pretty good today. Can't eat after 11 am so tomorrow should be ok too. I will add you to my prayers as I hope you will do for me. Hang in there. I'm right there with you.

chicken Soup wasn't too bad :)

I worry the Tomato might be too acidic for me. My doc will let me exchange stuff.

I liked the vanilla and strawberry shakes but thought the chocolate was ehh.

Tried any bars? I have chocolate and berry yogurt. The chocolate has the diet bar taste about it.

That's funny, I like the choc the best. However, I can tolerate them all. Bars do not impress me but its something to chew. I miss the premier bars and drinks. Its just 14 days right we can do anything for a couple weeks. I have to do 8 items a day. That turns into something about every 2 hours I am awake. I had to set alarms to remind me. Not hungrey at all so far. I think I will be ready for change things up by the end.

I have the Soup at night. I add sautee some low starch veges with Pam and then add Water and the soup powder. Its been fulfilling and not too bad. For the shakes, I add ice and sometimes a shot of espresso. Not bad. The bars are hopeless. I want to return those. Its only 2 weeks.

That would be nice to add veg. That would not be allowed with my doc. Silly bars and ice is the only thing I can chew. I can do SF Jello but so far tummy to full of the other stuff.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
