I am 11 days out of surgery and I'm just so angry. I'm depressed. I have not lost weight in about 5 days and I'm hungry. I just ate a scrambled egg with feta and now I'm so uncomfortable and angry with myself. I ate one egg earlier today and I felt fine. I'm suppose to be doing Protein Shakes and Water only. I want to scream and cry and vomit.

Hang in there vnessa. I'm still waiting on my surgery (Nov 4th), and my pre-op diet starts the 24th of this month. From all I've heard and read on the message boards, you will experience highs and lows throughout the weight loss journey, and some people hit weight loss stalls at different points in their journey. You can do this, and I'm rooting for you to succeed! The surgeon you had and the other staff (including dietitian and psychologist) wouldn't have approved/done the surgery if they didn't have faith in you.

If you're supposed to be on Protein shakes and Clear liquids, try crunching on a sugar-free popsicle instead of semi-solids. You don't want to hurt yourself with complications, right? I haven't heard anyone say this was a smooth-sailing, easy road, so don't beat yourself up though, OK

Hi, why are you eating egg and cheese if you are supposed to be on liquids? Please be careful that you don't hurt your new healing tummy.

Protip: It's time to open the door, go outside and keep walking.

You're feeling stress.

Go get rid of some of it. :)

You're going to feel all kinds of feelings on this journey, especially in these early days.

But how we will win this war is to learn how to manage our stress and soothe our unpleasant feelings WITHOUT turning to food -- of any kind, in any volume.

food doesn't fix our feelings. It just makes us fat. This is your big chance to stop doing what you always did before and do what will support YOU in becoming and staying healthier.

Please follow your diet plan diligently. It's not an easy road but if you are beginning to go off track this early in your journey, you will be angry at yourself for a long time. Hang in there! Drink your liquids and Protein and when the urge strikes you again to go off plan, think success and stick to the plan. Let me also give you fair warning that you will hit multiple stalls along your journey. Please don't be depressed by them and instead continue working through them cause the weight loss will continue. Good luck, chin up and stay on plan!

The emotions you are feeling are expected. Your response is not what's ok. Please adhere to the plan outlined by your bariatric team. All of us have to accept the realities that come along with this surgery. Surely you wouldn't want a terrible consequence because of the temporary emotions you are feeling.

Address your feelings. Talk to a friend, vent on this forum, but following a liquid diet when that is what is expected and what you agreed to (by undergoing this surgery) is the right thing to do. Please take care of yourself.

Trust the process. Stick to the rules and guidelines that your doctor has told you. It is hard, but you will feel so much better for doing it. My recovery hasn't been the easiest. I ended up getting really sick with a horrible cold. It felt like I had the flu. So, I had to take a step back in my progression of the kind of foods I can eat. Not fun. But, I did exactly as I told. Within 24 hours of increasing my Protein to 100g (until I am completely over my cold), continuing to get my required fluids and super soft mushies, I felt more human. Today, I am finally feeling like I can get up and do some things around the house. It has been over a week of feeling really sick. It was awful! But, seriously, follow everything to a T. Trust the process. It works.

I've been reading this forum for six months. I can relate to almost everyone. The feelings you are experiencing are completely normal. However you are doing yourself a disservice and potentially putting your new tummy at risk. As boring and frustrating as the first few weeks are, they will pass but you have to stick to your plan!

The above posters are all right - be kind to yourself by following orders and walking. It's what really will make you feel best, and proud of yourself too! I gained 20lb of Water weight in the hospital, and it took forever to lose it. I had a bad stall right after the first few pounds too, and was about to go out of my mind --and yes, I too was ANGRY! Frustrated! Feeling cheated and more! It's okay to feel that way, and use that energy to push yourself to get out and walk some more. It helped to e able to do something positive for me -- and then soon my weight loss began to be pretty steady with only an occasional stall. Remember also your body is still in shock from surgery, and will be struggling to figure out how it can respond and keep you alive, so maybe it's holding on to calories and such. I HATED reading all the "trust the process" posts, so I refuse to say that, but trust that you made a good and life-altering choice to have WLS, and that following through with your chosen expert medical advice will serve you well now too. That egg will taste a whole lot better when it's time for it too! Hang in there.

Kate

PS Take your measurements if you haven't already. I do them on the first of every month and a front and side pic too. Felt lousy at first, and then after that it felt like Christmas to redo those each month and see the progress.

Hello Vnessa ---Please don't get discouraged. I was instructed to NOT even weigh myself until 2-3 weeks AFTER surgery because the body is still healing from the surgery and still full of fluids from the IV's. As much as I wanted to---I didn't weigh in until my 2 week post-op doctor visit and could not believe the scale --- I was down 11 lbs!! I am 7 weeks out now and am down a total of 29 lbs!! Keep your chin up, don't get discouraged and if you are not satisfied with your Protein shakes, try to change it up with a different type/name brand of shake. I tried several before I found one that really satisfied my appetite and gave me the Protein I needed. Some are better than others, and different flavors can be a big boost!! Best of Luck --YOU CAN DO IT!!

Vnessa, poor thing. I am on month out as of Wed and when I was at your point, I was so miserable, I cried all the time. Some people have an easier recovery than others. I don't know why. Mine was awful but it is so much better now. You will be on soft foods soon and then before you know it, you will be back on regular food and your body will be recovered. Right now is the worst part. Please try to rest as much as you can, sleep if you can, take pain meds, and try to get your liquids down. That's all you need to do to get through it. You will be fine. I hope you turn the corner real soon.

Hi there. I haven't been on here in a long time but I was browsing and you're post just called to me. I remember being in your shoes feeling terrible during the healing process. What got me through was taking it one day at a time. I know that sounds silly, but I just focused on TODAY, what will get me through today, because each day I will heal more and feel better. I ended up having my gallbladder removed 3 weeks after my sleeve surgery. That SUCKED! and I had to revert back to liquids for a while. Now I'm 16 months post op 5 pounds below my goal and that is all in the past. This will be your past before you know it:)

My advice - instead of going off your dietary guidelines, try different Protein shakes. Or try blending some banana or Peanut Butter into a shake (use the blender). Sometimes a change in consistency helps. Have a variety of popcicles or anything else you can have (Jello, pudding, etc.) so you don't get bored. Journal your feelings. That helped me a lot (I was seeing a therapist and this was my "homework"). You will be frustrated and, if you're like me, "eating your feelings" isn't an option anymore:) Write them down, do yoga, walk, find what works for you. Try to be in the moment - it's okay to feel your feelings and it's perfectly normal to be frustrated, sad or whatever you feel. But try to be kind to yourself - you aren't alone in this journey and you are worth the effort to take the best possible care of yourself!!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
