Depression after surgery?!

Jennifer-

It sounds like it might be time to trim the fat (pun intended) from your life. You need a support system and a group of people who will be there for you. You are the same person regardless of your eating habits. You need people who are going to be there for you through thick or thin (again pun intended.) Your eating habits are only a small part of who you are and they should love you for you. If you need anything we are all here from you and you are not alone in this journey.

Jennifur,

You said the exact reason that I didnt tell any of my friends...I didnt want them to think of me as different. This mothers day we went to BBQ at inlaws and I sat at the kids table to keep everyone from noticing what I was eating...all of the sister in laws are over weight and we have all been on diets together..and it never works...its like a sabotage thing going on...someone did mention me losing weight...I just said, yeah I have a little...and changed the subject....I am no longer gonna be the biggest fattest sister in law...and I KNOW that noone is gonna like it...thats why I am keeping it to myself....I dont want people to treat me different...Yeah, maybe you are acting different, but so what, you just went through a major surgery, lost your BEST friend(food) and they want you to be happy and upbeat all the time...well, its NOT gonna happen...you are on a new journey to a new life...not that you cant keep your same friends, but they need to not be selfish and to learn to love the new you...Just me 2 cents....seems like I am ALWAYS giving it too...LOL...Deanna..

p.s. Good luck and keep your chin up...looks like we are the same age...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
