Can you give me some "experienced" advice ? I need good ideas for the puréed stage to make sure I'm getting in good Proteins and not too much salt or other bad stuff. Anything you could tell me would be appreciated. Good luck on your one year post op

I hardly ever use salt. You get enough sodium in foods regardless. During my puree stage, I liked mixing stuff up. I craved mexican food like crazy. So I had melba toast (which you can have because it dissolves. Anyways what I put on that was canned chicken, I got the reduced sodium put some taco seasoning on it which my own blend of cumin and garlic powder with red chili flakes. Then some low fat refried Beans. Put those in a bowl and sprinkle some low moisture and low fat shredded cheese on it in the microwave for a good couple minutes. Then I spread it on the cracker and a dab of low fat sour cream. That was my lunch every day at work. I ate a lot of can chicken, and egg salad as well. I made my egg salad with mashed avocado with tsp of low fat mayo with my hard boiled eggs smashed as well. I ate that on melba toast. You can get real creative! I love to cook and came up with many combinations to get me through my two weeks of puree food.

May I ask when you had your surgery ? In reality - when I look at my timeline and the numbers - I haven't done all that bad. I'm sure everything will be fine with me - will continue to post . The good and the bad :-). As one post said, I'm not running a race - I'm living a new life :-)

for me, I can't "dabble" with sugar. It sets off some kind of switch in my body and I go crazy..literally I lose all self control and I will eat carbs until I am actually sick. As hard as it sometimes is, I do better not having it AT ALL.

When I think about it like my body is allergic to sugar, it makes it easier to avoid.

Good luck-stay strong! You've already come so far, you got this!

That is a really good idea. Everywhere I go, there are candy bowls. I am going to just start telling myself candy makes me sick. I remember I saw this program on the educational channel one time, and it said every time you see foods that tempt you, picture them covered in worms, or ants, etc.

Think of the contents of the candy jar as pretty little pieces of rat poison. While you are at it, do not stop at McPoison's, Poison King, Poison Bell, or TGIP (Thank Goodness it's Poison).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
