Transfer Addiction....

Recommended Posts

So I have been a non smoker for 2 years now. Ever since surgery 7 weeks ago all I've wanted is a cigarette. I know that it's just transfer addiction trying to rear it's ugly head, but I just can't shake it. :( I can still barely eat anything (not that I want to) and I am far toooooo busy to pick up another hobby (kids, work out schedule, work...) I just need some encouragement.

Do you think it would help to wear a patch again?

(I'm just shooting in the dark here.)

When I quit I quit cold turkey so never did the patch. I would think the nicotine in it would just make me want to smoke more? I dunno. :( I have NOT had one, but man this craving is crazy.

non smoker for 2 years - since surgery 7 weeks ago - wanted a cigarette.

@@The_Wallflower

I don't think this is a cross over addiction

you smoked in the past, its not a new thing

i have always been a non smoker

so the following is easier said than done

PLEASE PLEASE work really hard at not having a cig

you have been successful for 2 years!!!! :)

cold turkey, thats amazing

good for you

no constructive answer to your question, just comment :)

having the sleeve you are on the way to becoming more and more healthy

( i see you have already lost 158 lbs - maybe from the lapband??)

like i said - you quit for 2 years - don't want the patch

if/when you want a cig

knock it off

being a non smoker its hard for me to understand the desire behind smoking

but of course its an addiction just like food

good luck bud :)

:) I lost 133lbs prior to the sleeve on my own. 160 total including since surgery on Aug 25th. :)

I'm trying soooooo hard. I don't plan on picking them up again, it's just such a crazy struggle. It's like my body is looking for a difference addiction since it can't have food now. Recognizing nicotine is what I figured.

My husband quit smoking two years ago. He says once you are a smoker you are always a smoker. You just choose not to light up, which is very very hard. He told me when someone lights up around him he just wants to snatch it away from them and suck it down!! Sending prayers and good vibes to help you with this issue.

gotta watch out for those sleeve sensors :D

good for you on loosing 133 lbs pre-op :)

following all the rules (i know you will :) )

will "help you" keep the weight off :)

remember look out for those censors - they are everywhere :D

keep biting your tongue so you don't touch that cig

easier said than done - but i know you can do it :)

after all you lost 133 lbs on your own :)

good luck :)

I would 100% not use a patch or any kind of nicotine. You are right that will just reintroduce the drug into your bloodstream all over again.

I quit about 1.5 years ago. I occassionally get a craving when I am feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Is it possible that this is what is causing your craving? Just a thought.

Science says that it takes only a brief few moments for a craving to pass, so what I do is go do something small that takes just a couple minutes -- say, change the laundry to the dryer or put away dishes, and I find that I quickly forget all about the craving.

I know you definitely don't want to go back to being a slave to the smokes!! I know I don't :P

Hang in there, you are getting healthier by the day! :)

You sound like you understand what is going on with the addiction transfer, and that your mind and habits are messing with you. You had the strength to quit cold turkey. Please don't undo that, I'm begging you!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
