When did nausea go away

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 days post op. I'm home but I am having some bouts of nausea. The nausea is worse then the pain for me. When did your nausea go away?

Give it time. My Doctor gave me several medications to take. It does get better. I would try different foods. I know that I am doing better with foods I wouldn't have thought I would. There are some that I thought would go easy and they do not. If you are not able to get food or Water in make sure you talk to your doctor.

I'm 6 weeks post-op and still deal with daily nausea. I have 2 meds which help a little. I'm anxiously awaiting not being nauseated!

Hi!

I am 7 weeks post op and due to extreme nausea for the past 6 weeks, I've been hospitalized twice, given out patient fluids twice, been on IV nutrition for 3 weeks, and had 3 endoscopes since my surgery.

It has not been pleasant, but it does gradually get better - especially if you don't have ulcers or strictures to deal with. And even if you do, there are procedures and medicines to help.

One piece of advice!!!!! Do NOT let yourself get dehydrated due to your nausea or any other reason! If you don't get in your fluids for more than a day- immediately call your doctor. I was so dehydrated a few weeks ago that I was hospitalized for 8 days straight. It was the absolute worst experience to date. Definity worse than the surgery.

When you become dehydrated your veins may become very difficult to stick and you could end up with a PICC line for easier access to IV fluids/other meds and nutrition. Trust me - it's no fun!!!!

Good luck with your nausea and recovery process!

So update. My nausea has improved very well. It is very slight if even there at all. I'm getting my fluids in and keeping to program. Thanks for the encouragement.

Did it improve with medication? Or just on it's own?

I think it went away on its own. The meds weren't doing much to it, I also changed up my Protein to see if that was causing it as well. So far so good, another day of no nausea.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
